I can't recommend either as I've never used them, but here's what I've stumbled upon when looking for a good VPS provider:
https://vpsfree.org/ — some Czech guys, it seems to have originated as a community and grown into a VPS provider, fulfils your first requirement/wish

https://datacenterlight.ch/ — Swiss guys who claim they are using renewable energy

Both ain't exactly cheap, but if you're okay with paying premium for the "mission" — here they are!

I'm still using my Lumia at home — I can browse Fedi with Bloat and Gemini through kineto proxy, and there is a good RSS reader that still works. Perfect gadget for the toilet — although I prefer reading a book most of the time.

But now that I think about it, my Android phone might be collecting dust more than my Lumia, I don't even take it with me when I go for short walks 🤔

I was never quite "getting" that strategy — attempting to make you create an account just to see things. Twitter was doing it the right way, at some point I was even thinking of making an account, but discovered Fedi.
What is the point of making an account if you don't even know what you get 🤷

Yeah, in my case I didn't even have to be rude, I just kept using my old Windows Phone and at some point WhatsApp went EOL there and I said: "Sorry guys, I'm not getting a new phone just to be in a chat room",— in the end people figure out a way to reach you through other means, in every company there is someone who can use Matrix or e-mail or the one with whom you stay in touch and who can make a phone call.
It also reduces the amount of "white noise" small talk drastically 😅

When your Fedi account is old enough, half of those followers are already dead — either inactive or migrated to another instance and became another "follower", few bother cleaning them up — unless you switch to another instance yourself.
