@p
Yeah, the visual aesthetics are similar and as that video was shot in Japan, I suspect both to be a reference to a third thing we simply don't know of 😄
Well, it's certainly those giant monster movies, but I think it has to be something specific.

And the video reminds me of Beastie Boys' Intergalactic 🤖

@Hyolobrika
Well, I mostly agree with the overall statement: one's native tongue always seems… superfluous and thus the way we use a foreign language feels more… laconic 🤷
I'm not sure about Russian in particular — to me things translated into Russian become too wordy and often lame, unless you're very careful with the language. As most people do not care to put enough effort into it, that quite often becomes the case.

@Hyolobrika
I believe, Blemora has to be configured to accept the gemini:// schema — it's enabled by default in the newer versions, but it might be not on old instances, even if Plemora itself is up to date.

@Hyolobrika
What is? I probably don't see the post you're replying to as it hasn't propagated to my instance 🤔

@GNUxeava @Suiseiseki @SuperDicq
By now C++ is also several different languages with compatible syntax, I've seen several iterations of its transformation in my lifetime and then I just stopped caring 😂
With the most recent standard it even looks like a decent language, problem is — would everyone on your team be using it, without certain convention set by the project and everyone following it everyone writes their own C++ and it works, but the code turns into mincemeat.

@pwm @iska @KaiserKitty @nyanide
Why not use pass? AFAIK that's exactly what it does and has some nice add-ons e.g. for importing passwords from Firefox, it even facilitates putting it under version control so you can sync them across devices.

@SuperDicq
Yeah, same here! Why bother using possibly slow connection when you have a broadband one at home and an externally accessible IP address that increases reachability for peers that do not have one and potentially speeds things up even further 👍

@theorytoe

@SuperDicq
Why don't you just control Transmission or whatever you use remotely and transfer files with sftp to your laptop when downloading is done? 🤔

@theorytoe

@sysrq Ackshually, it's quite decent, enough to stream video in 720p with no extra latency — those introduced by buffering.
I would be perfectly fine with bandwidth like that, were it not for not being able to consistently able to establish a connection, sudden interruptions, weird name resolution failures and not being able to have too many open connections.

@clongclongmoo
I'm sorry if that was rude — that wasn't my intent at all, I probably wasn't very sober when I was coming up with that reply 😅
Thanks for tipping me on Wahn's new stuff, I am a fan! And Red Box Recorder is indeed another artist I enjoy immensely, from the same era off Acroplane netlabel that Wahn was also on. Unfortunately I can't find any trace of them either.

@kravietz
Here is an interesting article somewhat related to the topic: moscowtimes.ru/2024/10/07/z-ru
Not really my point and I don't agree with everything, but it still "vibes" with me — what makes it interesting is the last paragraph: the state indeed understands Russians as the property of Russia. This is wrong and should not be the case, but this explains a lot of things: if Russians are slaves, then Ukrainians are runaway slaves who, from the state's perspective should be brought back.

@kravietz
> For example, who are “Russians”?
This is the most important question — but a very complex one, and I think coming up with a correct answer might prevent catastrophes from ever happening again. I really want to elaborate on this, but every time I try, it turns into another unfinished article, maybe one day… 😂

@blobcat
Is this the very cake that is a lie? 😹

I do it this way because it makes elogind register the session — it handles when it's idle and puts system to sleep according to the way it's configured.
It's one of the few things I use to handle power management — the other one being my own battery charge indicator that forcefully puts system to sleep if it goes below a certain threshold. No need to have an extra thing running for that 🤷
