It was then when I realised why inline regexes might seem neat, but are actually are a horrible idea — that is precisely why they were implemented so awkwardly in Python — to make them seem more like functions and be named and documented accordingly…
Ever since then I never had the incentive to touch Perl again 😄
@gemlog
Indeed, there are ways to keep Perl code maintainable, but when everyone is stressed out, when you're under peer-pressure to have a quick'n'dirty fix pass the code review because other people depend on it… I know that in real world these things would happen — this was a rather harsh eye-opener — it was then when I was seeing hashes passed as parameters grow indefinitely.

Yep! Early in my career I was like many on Fedi — hated the idea of programming language forcing coding style on me, having wrote some Perl and having near no experience in Python, I've seen a well-maintained framework in Perl turn into an absolute mess when being actively worked on by a team under a time constraint.

Link changing isn't such a bit problem, were it not for the most of them not supporting starting transmission at a particular position, making resuming impossible 😩

Yep, not direct ones anyway, but nausea and headaches can be sympthoms of high blood pressure, which in turn might be the result of body fighting viral infection. COVID is still widespread, whence my concerns.
But you're right, can be anything.

Sparse files are a cool feature, it's when currently absent data doesn't occupy real disk space, it's very useful with things like VM disk images — which might have bigger size than what they currently use, this space remains "reserved" — if you copy such a file to a filesystem not supporting sparse files, it starts using all this disk space: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sparse_file

Sadly, no, I usually don't use cases, unless they come with a phone, the one that came with my current phone was too ugly, but the phone itself is bulky/heavy, I was afraid it might split in two if I drop it, so I got one of those "tough" cases — it didn't come with animal ears and wasn't so tough against rubbing alcohol, so it nearly came apart already — but as the phone isn't new and now I'm not worried about it, buy I might still need a new case, I might as well get one with ears 😹
@romin
You have an animal-eared case? 🤩

Just in case: DMs/PMs simply don't exist on this instance as concept — don't use them, use the other instance if you absolutely have to, or send an email to any address at m0xEE.Net or .Com or .Org, but I prefer keep most communication public.
