@w
BTW is there a reason behind media files being served by Pleroma itself, not handled statically by nginx. In my (most simple) configuration uploads are just a directory on the same host, I can just point nginx there to serve them. Are there other reasons it's done that way which I just don't see, besides other uploaders existing and media being hosted in the cloud in more complex configurations ?

@w I see, makes sense. But if it's a temporary fix, slight performance hit isn't that bad. I still hope that a more permanent fix arrives soon 😅
Hosting media on a separate domain might still make sense, but having that extra cert to worry about bugs me.

@w Ugh! Link parser ate the https://, but I think you get the idea 😅

@w No, I get it, but if redirect fixes it for old posts, why won't it do the trick for new ones? Why is it necessary for newer post to contain direct links to media.my.domain, not the usual https://my.domain/media, that get redirected to media.my.domain?
Is it assumed that older posts don't contain the malicious script, but newer ones might? Is redirect treated differently from XSS perspective?

@Katze_942 Так надо активировать через iTunes. Только через VPN и в настройках выбрать Чехию — иначе не получится 😄

@charlie_root That's a great mix, congrats! 👍
My first impression was that it doesn't have many highlights because on my first listen I was finishing reading the economist book and it fit perfectly, but then I listened to it again and actually it does! So it woks great both for reading and for doing something more… lively.
I have listened to it for four times total throughout the day 🤪

Well, this one looks like a good enough guide: arachnid.town/objects/cb0605dd
I still don't get why do I have to reconfigure Pleroma to use the subdomain to uploads and mediaproxy if I set up a redirect, but did that anyway 🤷

@lain
> you should also delete ALL oauth tokens
Makes sense to have a button to invalidate all tokens right in PleromaFE 😏

@w Nice guide!
I only have one question: why reconfigure Pleroma to use the subdomain for uploads if I set up a redirect anyway? When permanent fix arrives I can just get rid of the subdomain, but if I reconfigure Pleroma, URLs in new posts would have the subdomain in them so I would have to keep it up (and its cert) forever so the links to images don't become broken.

@splitshockvirus
So what's this fuss is all about? I don't use media proxy and my Pleroma user doesn't even have admin access. Do I have anything to worry about?
@theorytoe @dcc @james @adiz

@mntmn Do you use a handheld lighter to start it up? 😂

@thatguyoverthere Doesn't work for me, I do feel myself better when I'm on carnivore diet. I'm also not against looking for new sources of protein, but I still think that the whole problem is way overblown.
The whole renting instead of owning does work when it really allows people to save, but it shouldn't be imposed on everyone — and it feels especially hypocritical when people who tell us that are brought in to their regular COP by dozens of private jets 🤷

@thor

@thatguyoverthere Same here. I do agree that if we want to have sustainable economy we have to strongly tone down on consumption, economy can't be based on mass-producing electronics that goes into garbage bin in 2-3 years (on computers running cryptographic hash function 24/7 either).
But some of the problems raised are questionable to say the least, e.g. I don't get the beef problem. I'm not against people not eating meat when it's their choice.

@thor

@thatguyoverthere It also seldomly gets below -30°C in winter, I remember when I was a schoolkid it even got below -40°C — this was a huge problem as it damaged hot water pipes. Now it rarely gets below -30°C during winter, for a week maybe, or less. Global warming or not, things are definitely changing.

There are very few mosquitoes outside Moscow nowadays. They used to be a problem even in the city, there were no easily installable anti-mosquito nets, but lighter curtains were a must and vaporizers were nice to have. Outside of the city they still do come when you're cooking something in the kitchen late in the evening, but very few of them, still attracted by moist, heat and light, but you barely notice them at other times.

@itsJamesD
I can't imagine what the etymology is, I was quite surprised when I learned it's called that in the US. We have a similar one on Russia: guinea pigs are called "морские свинки" which can be translated as sea pigs. Okay, the pig part is familiar, but I bet they can't swim! Capybaras can and they do look like giant guinea pigs, it might have made sense, but we don't have any capybaras here 😂
