@gemlog Russian is like that too, people bring a lot of words in from professional slang — even if there is a good native word for that, professional community often communicates in English and use the word they are used to, and then the word makes it into everyday language.
It's sad when this happens and I always try to use native word if there is one and it doesn't sound too old-fashioned 😄
I think in the age of Internet every language is like that.

@gemlog Good word! Among the few Russian (albeit transliterated) ones that have made it into English dictionaries. Along with nomenklatura, apparatchik… Only dacha comes to mind that is not about… a particular group of people 😅

@gemlog TBH when I came across this term for the first time myself, I didn't like it — a lot of the jokes were really poor taste.
But then 2014 happened and I was like: "Okay, they ARE REALLY like that, I no longer mind if this word becomes commonly accepted" 🤣

@gemlog There were a few phone conversations leaked recently hinting that he's getting unpopular even among business elites — no wonder, when their own wealth is in danger due to sanctions. Yet, we aren't seeing any defections, looks like scaring them to "hold the line" works quite well.

@gemlog As stated in the article, there are a lot of "mysterious" suicide cases among businessmen and they are happening more and more often, I can't pick any from top off my head, but it happens to high-ranking "siloviki" too, even if some of these suicides and accidents weren't staged, no one's against treating them as assassinations. It's evident that Putin got EXTREMELY paranoid as of recent, him using this as a tool to keep his inner circle in check isn't hard to believe.

@gemlog Political assassinations are a plausible theory. They have never been viewed as something unthinkable in Russia, after all we've had a few good examples, like Litvinenko, Politkovskaya and the more recent ones: Nemtsov, The Skripals, Navalny's assassination attempt. Some happened domestically so were never properly investigated, but no one believes official version of course. Berezovsky's "suicide" was underinvestigated, but the consensus is that it's also one of such cases.

My phone has excellent battery life — it can easily last over 7 days on single charge in standby.
About 4-5 days on average usage. I still charge it every couple of days, although I don't have to, I just feel uncomfortable leaving home with battery less than half charged, and I rarely charge it up to 100%.

Most didn't, a few Panasonic models with extra large batteries maybe did. On average, if you didn't talk much, you still had to charge them at least weekly.
And the secret technology that old phones used — there wasn't much you could do with them 😂
Nowadays most people spend hours using their phones, not necessarily for conversations.

No, I mean even getting color emojis to work was trouble, it just had problems with variable width characters.
But I haven't used it in years, maybe it's patched already. Sure, give it a try, doing so will do no harm 🤷
Urxvt used to be fast with very minimal feature set — pretty much in the vein of alacritty. It's probably the other way around though, since it came earlier 😅
