I'm looking for a terminal emulator with just the following features, not more
- 256 color support
- a scroll buffer
- ligature support
- not configured using a gui (for things like the color scheme or default shell)

there are a few terminal emulators that have these features, but they also add a lot of other things (like tabs or a split view)
i've tried st with a few patches, but scrolling never worked well.
kitty is ok, but i sometimes accidentally press a key that does something with tabs.
alacritty has everything i need, except for ligature support

does anyone have any recommendations?
@Haijo7 You could try urxvt, aka rxvt-unicode. I don't really know what it has but it wasn't mentioned in your list.

@james
I think it also lacks ligature support, even getting color emojis to work used to be tricky.

I see, going for all bells and whistles 😜

@m0xee @james I don't really mind the lack of color emoji support, ligature support is quite important though. I'll just install it and see if it works as soon as I get the time to do so. I need ligature support to work for the jetbrains mono font

@Haijo7
No, I mean even getting color emojis to work was trouble, it just had problems with variable width characters.
But I haven't used it in years, maybe it's patched already. Sure, give it a try, doing so will do no harm 🤷
Urxvt used to be fast with very minimal feature set — pretty much in the vein of alacritty. It's probably the other way around though, since it came earlier 😅
