@huso@mas.to But what if the genie decides to kill the process that caused illegal operation and not crashes himself? 😱

@swaggboi I'm using Proton on my proxy to avoid censorship and I have a separate tunnel from Hurricane Electric for IPv6 stuff — works well, I've configured Squid to prefer IPv6 and fallback to Proton tunnel for IPv4, but I didn't try that with torrents. They aren't against piracy in Russia, so my seedbox is just connected directly.

@eris Yup, they don't have it on free plans. Life's ain't fair 😅
@swaggboi

@swaggboi Oh IPv4/IPv6? No, they don't have v6 unfortunately.

@swaggboi What does dual-stack mean in this context? 🤔
I think Proton is okay with torrents, they even provide port forwarding on some servers to speed things up.

@neural_meduza Да, с суперкомпьютерами как-то не задалось. Да и в принципе с цивилизацией, что уж там 😅

@dave We all have fingers crossed for you, Dost!
Wait a minute, you're already dead! 🧟

@tiskaan If you use Matrix, I also recommend gomuks — it's also TUI and written in Go. It can even display images — well, previews, using colored characters.
These TUI apps are so cool that I came to relying mostly on them. They might, unlike GUI apps, have a steep learning curve, but once you get around, they are really easy to use. Well, some aren't, e.g. vim, mutt and w3m, but tut, gomuks, amfora and cmus are pretty straightforward IMO.

@tiskaan tut's definitely worth checking out. Edit config file right away to enable mouse support and other cool features that might be disabled by default. And if you care about aesthetics, it's themable. Default theme didn't blend well with my environment so I changed the colours. Once you get accustomed to it, you'll like it. Despite being TUI, it's fully functional, but of course it has to rely on external programs for audio/vids/pics.
@curiousthinker

@thor Kremlin wants everyone to believe that this war will go on for years, but I don't believe Russia's faltering economy is able to sustain that, it's close to its breaking point.
And it seems to me most of Ukrainian refugees want to go back and don't consider this a long term migration. Some will definitely stay, but not too many.
Anyway, the cuisine isn't half bad 😅

@tiskaan
Last week I've spent 20 minutes on patching imv so it's closed when you click the middle mouse button. I like using tut to browse Fedi, it's a tui app and images are opened with imv and I wanted to use mouse only to navigate (yeah, using TUI app with mouse only 🤪).
I could've found another way, like another program or keep using keyboard. But it wasn't hard, none of the linux stuff is particularly hard, I grew up using it and I've got decades of experience, so why not?
@curiousthinker

@tiskaan It's true usually. But I'm just that kind of person who always goes on tinkering with stuff, it's not necessary technical, I spend a lot of time choosing proper fonts or colours. It's purely psychological, sometimes you have to tell yourself: "That's good enough, do something else". On the other hand, if you don't feel motivated to do what you think is more useful, you'll just procrastinate in some other way. And I have fun "wasting" that time, so who cares 😁
@curiousthinker

@curiousthinker
I know man, 't was just a joke.
TBH the amount of computer-related autism grew exponentially when I got back into linux. I spend a lot of time fixing things to make them work the way I want. Maybe that's wasting time, but when I was using Mac OS X or Windows I was using that valuable time on being frustrated. Or yelling at computers. Or hitting them 😅
Because when you can't fix it you can only learn to live with it. Maybe that's better, I dunno 🤷
@tiskaan

@curiousthinker
Cheater! You could've installed Gentoo and waste time on computer-related autism like all other cool kids do 😏
@tiskaan

@zleap
The only computer that is "younger" than a decade at my place is the phone I'm typing this on. Which is a cheap phone, but I still consider it too powerful. Do I have to be ashamed of my dual Xeon Mac Pro or my even more dated dual G5 Power Mac? These machines are legends!
To be honest, I thought this was a joke first, but maybe I just don't get most of Gen Z 🤷
@djlink

@cafkafk
Reality in which all grown-ups all have top-specced Talos 2 workstations at home and laugh at youngsters who have to use their puny Xeon-based ones. Behind their back of course to increase the dramatic effect!
This is too funny! In a weird way 🤣
@djlink

@dj It doesn't mean open-source, just that you can have your own flavor of cat based on open spec. And that it remains compatible with other cats 😹
@iska@mk.starnix.network

@gemlog Good luck not leaving anything behind this time!
And have a great time! 😁

@gemlog Oh, don't worry and take it easy of course, we're just sharing thoughts here, not deciding something big.
Yeah, Litvinenko, the former FSB officer, who wrote a book that claimed it was FSB who staged the bombings in Russia to start the Chechen wars with support from the general public.
He fled to the UK, but was later poisoned with Polonium. One of his poisoners later became a MP in Russia, the other one also took high position, neither was properly investigated and tried.

@gemlog The real advantage the US has over these countries isn't perfect reputation, but stronger democratic institutions. Not perfect, but way better that in Russia, Iran, Turkey and Venezuela combined. I bet, you won't even be able to publish a book like that in these countries. Remember Litvinenko?
This is what makes the US more trustworthy to me, not Biden, Trump, or whoever is at the helm. US civil society will never let it turn into dirty deeds done quick, no matter how evil the state is.
