@mwt Yep, it's a pretty good alternative if you are too lazy to self host (like me). Like I said in other comment, I don't use web interface and mostly use hyrdoxide or protonmail-bridge to access it, but I like it in every possible way.
They get a lot of hate for giving info on some activist to the police, but they only disclosed his IP-address per Swiss law and that guy didn't even use VPN. I don't know, it doesn't seem THAT bad to me 🤷

My e-mail client is ssh to mutt on a computer that runs fetchmail, procmail and hydroxide (to access ProtonMail in sane way).
Maybe I should get rid of this shit and just self host — I don't know, I'm too lazy for that.
I'm cautious not to step on that slippery slope because I know it'll get down to hosting my Matrix server and Mastodon instance 😅

@safiuddinkhan@fosstodon.org I used ProtonVPN and got ProtonMail at a promotional discount. It's good, now I use it as my domains' mail. They used to have an account in Fedi, but abandoned that in favour of Twitter — really dumb move on their side IMO 🤷

Even the ones who use sway usually have some nice things like CPU load, or free RAM indicators on the panel, but I'm usually like: "Do I really need that? If I want to know, I'll run top anyway"

I did that once: I've switched from Mac OS X to Windows 8, but Microsoft ruined what seemed like a promising UI with time. In fact, pre-release Windows 8 was the best, when there was no Start button at all, since then it was rolling downhill IMO. Dark mode for File Explorer in Windows 11 is nice, I like new Window management presets, that thing that appears when you hover over Maximize in window header, but everything else looks like Windows XP to me, meh 🤢

Well, there are elinks and abovementioned w3m, but they are hardly full-featured replacements.

I've read a lot of good things about cmus — the music player. But I've never used it myself.

I said this ironically, but I really approve of what you do. It's important, this place is for everyone to enjoy after all. I think I've only made a couple exceptions — but in those cases I think no lengthy description could make it clearer to visually impared person or one speaking different language.

@gemlog@tilde.zone But when COVID broke out they doubled down on conspiracy theories. Then, Freedom Convoy… I'm sure, Kremlin had a hand in this. I get, people don't like restrictions which were imposed, but these were lifted pretty soon in Canada and the protests went on. What was the point? When the war broke out, everything suddenly cooled down a bit. It's just another far-fetched guess, my personal conspiracy, but it did look suspicious to me 🤪

@gemlog@tilde.zone Like you said, their styles are somewhat different. I think RT is so popular because they weren't pushing Russian agenda, but highlighted what was wrong in the US. They gave voice to groups you couldn't find in more popular media, like antifa and left-wing libertarians. I hate RT of course, but I get why these people embraced such an opportunity.RT wasn't even that harmful,their most popular videos on YT were like "A lionness gave birth at a NY zoo"

@gemlog@tilde.zone They all are just facets of the same propaganda machine. Russian company name of RIA is МИА «Россия Сегодня» — literally Russia Today. They used to be good when they were called РИА «Новости» They had free to attend orchestra performances in their conference hall, my mom took a particular liking of that and went there almost every week. It all changed in 2014, they were renamed and became another propaganda outlet.
