On the surface "uncompressed" formats are easier to understand, but a lot of stuff about images and audio is about how we perceive color and sound. E.g. most humans hear sounds up to 20 kHz so by Niquist we have 44.1k samples/sec enough to represent it in digital, but what if it's some other species or human brain changed. Will that be obvious to them?

@blumlaut Not Twitter only, every single website does that! This baffles me: first they want to have more of my personal data — fill every single field, then they want me to have upper and lower case letters, numbers and an asterisk in my password, change it every week, use 2FA, etc to "protect my data". Fuck that! I was just fine having "password" as my password and no personal data linked to my account, what was wrong with that?

But then I relized that 4 x 4Tb hard disks I have in this thing is more than enough storage for me, I use USB for devices like mice only anyway, so gave up on the idea 😅

2.96 WAS horrible! I remember seeing this version in RedHat, but I wanted to build it myself, so I went to the GCC website, but there were no sources for 2.96. I looked it up and then I've realized how bad it was. Who could ever come up with such an idea?! 🤪

The network admin at the company I've worked for in the mid 2000s enabled something like this — so the ports of all the switches get associated with the MAC address of the device plugged into it and… The network in the whole office went down.
It took us half a day to find what was the issue — someone left a passive switch in the conference room that had a cable plugged into itself 🤣
