@SuperDicq
Yeah, same here! Why bother using possibly slow connection when you have a broadband one at home and an externally accessible IP address that increases reachability for peers that do not have one and potentially speeds things up even further 👍
@SuperDicq
Why don't you just control Transmission or whatever you use remotely and transfer files with sftp to your laptop when downloading is done? 🤔
@sysrq Ackshually, it's quite decent, enough to stream video in 720p with no extra latency — those introduced by buffering.
I would be perfectly fine with bandwidth like that, were it not for not being able to consistently able to establish a connection, sudden interruptions, weird name resolution failures and not being able to have too many open connections.
@clongclongmoo
I'm sorry if that was rude — that wasn't my intent at all, I probably wasn't very sober when I was coming up with that reply 😅
Thanks for tipping me on Wahn's new stuff, I am a fan! And Red Box Recorder is indeed another artist I enjoy immensely, from the same era off Acroplane netlabel that Wahn was also on. Unfortunately I can't find any trace of them either.
@kravietz
Here is an interesting article somewhat related to the topic: https://www.moscowtimes.ru/2024/10/07/z-rusofagiya-ili-russkie-eto-prilagatelnoe-a144104
Not really my point and I don't agree with everything, but it still "vibes" with me — what makes it interesting is the last paragraph: the state indeed understands Russians as the property of Russia. This is wrong and should not be the case, but this explains a lot of things: if Russians are slaves, then Ukrainians are runaway slaves who, from the state's perspective should be brought back.
@kravietz
> For example, who are “Russians”?
This is the most important question — but a very complex one, and I think coming up with a correct answer might prevent catastrophes from ever happening again. I really want to elaborate on this, but every time I try, it turns into another unfinished article, maybe one day… 😂
@blobcat
Is this the very cake that is a lie? 😹
@millihertz
I do it this way because it makes elogind register the session — it handles when it's idle and puts system to sleep according to the way it's configured.
It's one of the few things I use to handle power management — the other one being my own battery charge indicator that forcefully puts system to sleep if it goes below a certain threshold. No need to have an extra thing running for that 🤷
> we currently have a 19% interest rate
And the Chairman of the Board of one of the largest banks, who is loyal to the state, he owes everything to the current authorities, 100% state man and has zero incentive to exaggerate things, expects it to be increased up to 21% till the end of this year 😱

Damn, I didn't know that Philip Zimbardo is the one behind Stanford prison experiment. For me he was the author of Man (Dis)connected) that I have on one of the bookshelves — that's why I even remember the name: it gets picked up by peripheral vision from time to time. I didn't expect that book to have been written by someone with a (relatively) big name 😱
@kaia
From Google's servers I hope? 😈

"It takes one to know one"? 😏
@grishka Yeah, a matter of habit I suppose. Most people have their phone in hand most of the time nowadays — it felt weird for me using the public transportation and seeing even the older people being like that: eyes on their phone most of the time, I only take mine out when I want to reply to a message, look something up or switch to a different album in the audio player 😄
@grishka @zonk
Good! It's still kinda ridiculous: attaching a card to a phone to pretend you are using your phone for payments instead of using the card directly… But at least it's not insecure — in a way it still is as you always carry your card with your phone, sometimes I take just my phone, but not my wallet and vice-versa 🤷
@grishka @zonk
For real? Pure cargo cult!
Having two separate devices is at least more secure. Besides, does it even ask for a PIN? Normally one expects it to be secure because the phone acts as an additional security device that performs a biometrics check of the one holding it prior to responding to a challenge, with phone out of the way and no PIN prompt this is madness! 😱
@mikemathia
THAT can inflict permanent damage even without relying on conventional weaponry 😆

Just in case: DMs/PMs simply don't exist on this instance as concept — don't use them, use the other instance if you absolutely have to, or send an email to any address at m0xEE.Net or .Com or .Org, but I prefer keep most communication public.
