Of course they are, but as you aren't going to start making a phone from scratch completely by yourself, you just have to go for lesser evil — which gives FBI-CIA fuckers an advantage, never in my life I'd like to deal with whatever China has in their place.
My team at Mozilla is hiring an engineer with Linux & Android low-level experience. This is a fully remote job.
We deal with all sorts of down-to-the-metal topics: IPC, sandboxing, libc & kernel interactions, memory management, signal handling, linkers, compilers etc... But also Linux/Android-specific graphics stacks and UIs.
And no, you won't have to deal with AI, I promise.

Before I go to sleep, I always read a bit. Our cat Mimo didn't agree with that and wanted some attention...

That is why I feel sceptical about phones built on Dimensity chips. Mediatek is also Taiwanese, but… 😅
@nyanide @kirby
I only have 1 and other than the instance that machine hosts plethora of other things 🤣
If I had 4 gigs to play with, I'd probably be hosting 8 instances running on different software.
I have a PowerMac G5 with 4 gigs of RAM collecting dust, but I'm not sure I want it running 24/7 — it's impact on power bill is unpredictable, it's also somewhat noisy, at least not as silent as Mac Mini is.

Amateurs! Should've registered a new email account, subscribed it to the Hubbard-rhubarb, confirmed it, then set up a rule to forward everything to you.
Easy to block — also not sure making a new email account is as easy these days — now that everything requires a phone number.
Genuinely surprised they require a confirmation though, was fairly certain if you're careless enough to give them an address, they keep sending you printed materials even when you're long dead 😅
@kaia
Ah, I see… just cleaning up the list of people you follow — yes, that won't cause any issues and the query probably won't be too hard, but I'm not in the mood for SQL today 😅
@kaia
Cleaning up old accounts in the DB might seem like a good idea, but this has to be done with special care as these accounts have activities associated with them and might have other data as well. Removing just the accounts might leave behind dangling links, it might also cause these activities to be retrieved again, it might not cause immediate problems, but eventually it might render your DB unusable.
@kirby
This can be a problem too? Hm-m-m… maybe I should give it more RAM instead of keeping more of it free so it can be used for file cache 🤔
@romin
Decentralised network of hate! ☝
Consisting of horrid chodes and horrid code 😅
@sneak
Yeah, I agree — but that is the whole point, they don't have so much at stake in Russia as they do in China and yet they play along with these demands 🤷
@panorama
Вот это прямо очень хорошо! 😂
Check out the rendering of Pilet 5! It's our new, more compact 5-inch variant of the Pilet. We're expecting to have a working prototype in just a few days. This model is designed with manufacturability, ergonomics, and compactness in mind, while still packing the same 7-hour battery life as its bigger counterpart.
@sneak
Apparently, Apple has easened up even further to complying with foreign governments' requirements. In Russia they didn't hand over the keys to the kingdom like they did in China (yet😏), but they seem to be removing VPN software from local App Store quite willingly — without putting up any fight at all: https://www.techradar.com/pro/vpn/apple-keeps-removing-vpn-apps-in-russia-and-the-toll-is-worse-than-we-thought

Just in case: DMs/PMs simply don't exist on this instance as concept — don't use them, use the other instance if you absolutely have to, or send an email to any address at m0xEE.Net or .Com or .Org, but I prefer keep most communication public.
