BTW screen tearing isn't about video, it's noticeable even when scrolling the page in Firefox — I've been surprised to see it even on relatively modern hardware (modern = not two decades old in my case 😂), I've tried everything — every Xorg setting, every Firefox setting in the book and couldn't get rid of it, when I switched to sway — it's just gone! Simple as that!
@sotolf @rl_dane @thelinuxcast
Nothing monolith about it if you don't use a distro that relies of systemd, sway is a separate software, wlroots is a separate software, I think you need elogind for seat management or whatever they call it — that's about it. I hate systemd and I don't use it, but I use Void with Sway on hardware that supports it and it works perfectly.

I usually don't take boxes I use for hosting stuff, I could — these aren't big either, but there's no need to, they are pretty autonomous, the most they need is being restarted after the power outage, I can do everything else, including the filesystem repairs remotely.
@threat
You know me, I'm not very demanding in terms of computing power, any modern laptop would feel like a supercomputer to me — even quad-core i7 still feels like a decent machine for building stuff. I'm used to be on low-powered and old equipment.
I think all computers I use daily could fit in a medium-sized suitcase, in fact I sometimes do take this stuff with me when I have the opportunity to live in the country.
NO. ABSOLUTELY NOT. DON'T DO THAT. #visa

I really want to get myself one of those robot vacuum cleaners, but every time I realize what amount of work it is to root one and make it usable with something like Valetudo, I'm get like: "A-ah, fuck it!"

I've seen Fortran actually being used in a couple of projects where I didn't expect it to be, but those projects did use some advanced math — not advanced enough to truly justify it, but those pieces of software were relatively old, so it likely was there historically — maybe no one cared enough to reimplement those parts as you usually get a Fortran compiler with gcc anyway 🤷

In most cases the account can't be taken over as they won't have access to my emails, so why would I care coming up with complex password just to prevent someone from logging in? 🤷
In the end it's the most effective security measure — just don't have any sensitive information associated in your online accounts.
@LemonSky1970 @RandomFactsAboutCats@toot.community
These accounts have no payment information associated and I never use my real name without good reason, so why bother? Someone might find out what beer I bought last weekend, OMG!!! 😱 Wait… No, I don't really care. I have a very simple password even for EA account — Electronic Arts might mind someone else playing my games, I don't. It can be used to send SPAM, but I've never asked for "social" functions, so it's again EA who might mind that, not me 😂
@LemonSky1970 @RandomFactsAboutCats@toot.community
I have very complex passwords for the accounts the security of which I care about and the likes of "cat_name123" for others, often just "password" — where it can be used, not directly in the form, they often have JS checks, but by doctoring the HTTP request to change the password 😏
I'm not using a password manager and I don't care about the security of these accounts.

Just in case: DMs/PMs simply don't exist on this instance as concept — don't use them, use the other instance if you absolutely have to, or send an email to any address at m0xEE.Net or .Com or .Org, but I prefer keep most communication public.
