@useless_idiot Yeah, that definitely was a mistake, instead of making 🇨🇳 and 🇷🇺 more democratic, it "tainted" 🇩🇪 and whole 🇪🇺 with it.
I couldn't even imagine the scale of corruption, I was expecting at least what we have now sanction-wise in 2014-15, but no — it go back to business as usual pretty fast.
I bet with 🇨🇳 it's even worse as it's less obvious, they are really good at not being "in your face".

@threat
> but no one is using it
Well, services like Bubble and Station get this problem solved, I think the big turnoff for many was that there was nothing "interactive" on Gemini, no easy way to interact with each other, having standalone capsules and gemlogs felt like foing too far back in time.
But of course it would be even better to have better ways of intercommunication, just to avoid the centralization mistake too.

@threat Yeah, it feels the same way to me, like the web gets re-done, but this time avoiding the mistake we've made the last time. Recent discussion whether ANSI colorcodes should be supported universally looked very encouraging, I hate modern web with every single cell of my body, but even I'm not THAT conservative. With web we were like: "Oh, a marquee tag — lets' add a scrolling line of text everywhere!"
Lesson learned well, we can have anything now, but it doesn't necessarily mean we should😂

@useless_idiot I've never lived in Germany so I only judge by what I see from the outside, but it looks like Merkel's politics got Germany in the wrong in every possible way, but "her legacy" is still not considered something bad.
Then again, who am I to judge, we've got Putin who started the war in Europe and it got to the point when we can't even fix this shit ourselves anymore 😩

@threat Whoah! I've seen even the MIDI-saxophone thing, but not something like this!
No, my basses, even the remaining cheap one, are analogue, MIDI controllers are separate from them. Have both, but don't mix 😁
I still have a four octave keyboard and M-Audio Trigger Finger, and MPC-like drumpad device.

@re9177 You're right, could as well be an homage. Either way, nothing's wrong with that, it's the best spot for a pointing devices anyway 😄

@re9177 Yes, but on CEC-E it's in its own block on a flat, slightly submerged surface, exactly where you expect touchpad to be on modern kb/touchpad combos. It's amazing how it doesn't look like something from the past at all, more like a modern re-imagination of it.

@threat I have sold all my good bases, except for the most cheap one and most MIDI-controllers. Your thread made me plug this cheap bass in only to realize that one of the mic/instr inputs on the soundcard no longer works as expected — something's wrong with the gain knob, I had to press it upward for the input to work. Now I'm a sad panda 😔

@thor
Space Cadet was nice, but this was WAY more addictive! 🤤

@shadsy
Those vintage Victrolas definitely need a comeback 😆

@misty

@misty Both my Rotel and NAD CD players stopped recognizing CDs so that is probably how I'm going to listen to jazz too pretty soon 😄

@electronwarier Not really. He didn't choose that, not caring about someone's life doesn't necessarily mean that you want him/her to die, you just don't care. Same here, he doesn't want all Ukrainians to die — he just doesn't care if and how many of them die, same for Russians, Americans or anyone really, he only cares about him staying in power 🤷

@DotardTed

@q66 Wow! This WS looks like an amazing addition to your extensive hardware collection! I know you have a really cool one 🤩

@Cooper@mastodon.bida.im

@neural_meduza

As for the music, you can download the album in it's entirety for free here: archive.org/details/acp056_red
This is very close to the music I used to make myself, I usually prefer darker sound, this one is mostly lighthearted, but good nonetheless.
The rest of Acroplane's roster is interesting too! When I was looking for the link, I was quite surprised to discover them still being active and having newer releases on Band Camp.

Damn, I have missed the perfect opportunity to post this! Well, better late than never. It was actually this track that sparked recent resurgence of my interest in Ted's life. I've even re-read half of Industrial Society and Its Future while living in the country during COVID summer, mostly alone and with very few utilities: cold water unsuitable for drinking and even electricity wasn't always available — a very fitting atmosphere. I've been in the mood to start writing my own manifesto 😅

@pixelherodev@fosstodon.org Yeah, I have already checked it out. Unfortunately the CSS isn't up to standards even for Nitter, which is my primary use case for a GUI browser — the rest of software is TUI. Well, Surf works for me, maybe NetSurf will find its uses too, here is the computer in question: social.librem.one/@m0xee/11044
Despite me hating CMake, I have to admit that replacing custom build system with it is nothing to sneer at — xbps-src made it easy for me, but it must be a maintainer's nightmare.
