@dallin@fosstodon.org I never got the port rants, I gave up on Apple, but for different reasons. These photos look messy, but will that look any better if you had to plug all that stuff directly into the laptop? The 2011 model (I owned it, never used most ports in 8 years) had Thunderbolt, it means that instead of plugging all the devices in individually after taking your laptop somewhere you could use a single cable to plug everything in at once. Do you even use wired LAN outside your office/home often? 🤷

@annika This reminds me of how my friend wanted to introduce a new colleague of his to music by Richie Hawtin, the one he released under his Plastikman moniker in particular. He told her about sound design and all that, then he puts some track on as an example, most of the sounds in which are in the lower range of course. And they hear… nothing! Because the speakers he used were really bad. It was so funny 🤣

@evelyn Proton changed their brand colour to a shade of purple too. I used to like this colour when I was younger, but I grew to associate it with something unhealthy. It's odd seeing it gaining popularity as a branding colour 😏

I think I should make it clear, I'm not a US citizen and only so to say watch from the sidelines. I'm from the land where obtaining a gun legally is hard, illegally — not so, where sanity of an average person is highly questionable and police is ineffective despite the police state. Yes, that one😅
To me the polarization around IMO the least effective measure looks just stupid, like someone is trying to make people bash each other instead of actually doing something.

Yup, makes sense! Could be costly and not that easy to implement, but should sound reasonable even to the ones who want to "defund the police".
This transition to non-lethal arms and mental health measures should be prioritized, gun ban shouldn't be the first option on the table, this alone won't solve the problem, but it's met with most resistance and only makes people fight each other, divides the society instead of making it move in the right direction as a whole.

Who will stop the person who illegally obtained an automatic rifle if even the police is not allowed to have guns? Any public event can turn into a massacre if no one is able to act until police that is allowed to have guns arrives.
Working with public mental health should be the top priority as it's core of the solution to this problem, "gun ban" is only a part of it, still, it remains the main talking point.

The vid is an excerpt from a parody to a moment where it did sound exaggeratedly harsh. The character in the original movie accused the girl for some wrongdoings, but it was so far fetched that it just looked stupid and he parodied that.
But I used this only because what he says is "It's unthinkable". The original news headline (fake, AI generated) literally reads "Scientists discovered a link between pelmeni (kind of dumplings popular in Russia) and small pelmeni" 🤣

Лично мне они не мешают, но как-то общепринято в некоторых кругах, что погоня за лайками и репостами — это плохо. Есть и расширения браузера, которые и в Twitter их скрывают🤷
Следует понимать, что из-за децентрализации они не всегда правильно подсчитываются, иногда в ленте видишь одно количество, открываешь эту же публикацию на её сервере — там всё иначе.
Есть другое ПО, помимо Mastodon, где кроме звёздочки есть другие реакции. Это не полный аналог того, что было в Twitter

@splitshockvirus That is the way Google operates. I remember App Engine being a paid-for service while still being in alpha stage. And not in words only, it did go down several times for noticeable periods of time, that was hilarious!
I'm not sure their other services are also this way, I just prefer to stay out of it 😅

This! Once I've copied several directories with cp to new location and intended to remove original ones by replacing "cp -a" in the last command with "rm -rf". It took me a couple of seconds to realize that I forgot to remove the last parameter — the target dir. That was quick, but about 20 gigs of data I've just copied were already gone. Nothing of value was lost, but I was scared as I'm usually super-careful about this stuff 😱
