Also, like a kid in a candy store, I've just upgraded my Forgejo instance from 7.0.5 to 8.0.3. It just keeps getting better. Relentlessly. Great work Forgejo community!

A solid decision: forgejo.org/2024-07-release-v8 Forgejo drops MS SQL Server support, "because it's not Free Software". It' incompatible with the project's values. Boom. Love it.

I'll be tabling at CXC this weekend in Columbus in my Ohio homeland. Come down, get some comics, and I'll have original art to sell for the first time in a while. Looking forward to seeing beautiful green paper money again!

“‘I don’t think you solve the systemic economic problems just with worker co-ops,’ [John Duda of @redemmas] says. ‘There needs to be a larger context in which worker co-ops are embedded — a larger fight. But I think there’s something really important and really precious about worker co-ops as a laboratory or a kind of learning.’”

Trying out #rr for the first time.

So far, loving it.

I feel the danger of never wanting to come back to regular #debugging again. But sometimes it can't be avoided :(

Maybe time-travel debugging could be add to #qtcreator, pretty please?

I created a 'burner' LinkedIn account so I could see some important-for-work postings that were only visible by authenticated users. I'm now getting (sometimes multiple) daily spam telling me how I'm 'on a roll'. No I'm bloody well not. I revile that place and everything it stands for.

Security expert @briankrebs is incensed (again and correctly) at Experian's privacy/security non-protections.

As he points out, the company is part of a cartel that is unaccountable for its shoddy practices.

Well, this is huge: un.org/global-digital-compact/ UN member states committing to digital policy - 14-17 commit member nations to promoting 'digital public goods', and it's all about open source, open standards, open data, etc.

h/t @downey

The one thing I find gut wrenching is that the title for the linked PDF... un.org/global-digital-compact/ shows it was authored with %&#*en MS Word. Insidious and counterproductive.

For any #Fedifolks who record music and want to distribute it... this is a very compelling option: wedistribute.org/2023/11/intro - I've been tracking this (and experimenting with setting one up) for my band's recordings for a while. Very cool project!

Finally, our crew is making progress towards adding more machines to the datacenter. The redundancy will allow us to minimize downtime.

Switched to #wayland on my main machine.

Most software is still fine.

#GTK apps are not fine.

I never used kinetic scrolling and I don't want it now either. I guess I'll have to patch my GTK for that.

I want to zoom pictures with my touchpad. I don't understand why it doesn't work now (eom, viking).

A: Because it breaks the flow of conversation.
Q: Why is top posting bad?

^ this also applies to file dialog buttons. So far no luck getting them back down. Any hints?

I wanted to rent some CPU power from Hetzner to calc better text prediction data for .

Created account via VPN so they wanted additional ID information which I sent with passport number removed. Resulting in:

I can't recommend this service.

"It turns out big companies engaged in predatory behavior towards lower-income consumers by increasing prices of less costly goods by a higher percentage than more expensive offerings...Better off voters and the Democratic party elites in particular seem baffled about (which is a polite cover for unsympathetic to) the continuing complaints of price pain from lower and middle income consumers."
