I wanted to rent some CPU power from Hetzner to calc better text prediction data for .

Created account via VPN so they wanted additional ID information which I sent with passport number removed. Resulting in:

"""
After reviewing your updated customer information, we have decided to deactivate your account because of some concerns we have regarding this information. Therefore, we have cancelled all your existing products and orders with us.
"""

I can't recommend this service.

@agx gosh.. I was always said Hetzner is the best user-friendly provider :(

@arunmani That's what saddens me too. I've recommended Hetzner so many times. But seems not anymore 😢

@arunmani I wrote that I'm not happy with their decision but went for another provider already.

@agx I heard that their verification process is pretty harsh lately. Servers, hosting, etc. is all fine with me though. I had issues in the past as well with the verification, but support was kind and fixed them. They were never this harsh :(

@agx I had the same, without using any kind of VPN or other cloaking service. I DMed them on twitter and they unblocked it, and allowed my custom. It's quite common, I believe.

@popey Thanks a lot for letting me know!

I don't think shooting first and then hoping the customer goes hunting for them is a good business practice so I'll happily spend my money elsewhere.

@Psyhackological @popey I've used gandi.net as I only need the host for a short periods of time.

@agx @popey yeah but it is kinda what they do. They block then if you bother having the work of reaching out, then you are "probably not a scammer/phihing/spammer/whatever".

I had to reach out to them to open a port 25 on a server I had set up for an association once.

Yes, spending our $ elsewhere is the only way to get these companies to behave. And we should keep doing it until they learn.

@agx I had the same problem with #Hetzner when I tried to ordered from them while using a VPN: ask for personal data => get card information => block account.
They answered my email after 3 days and they said:

> Please sign up again and do NOT use a VPN/proxy during registration.

Yeah, right.
By then I had obviously already ordered from somewhere else.

@cosmin Interesting. What threw me off was the tone off the message. I mean I didn't violate their terms of service or anything (how would I without an approved account ). So it seems they already have enough customers.
