Someone should write a @bookwyrm plugin for #Calibre. I'd love to create a project for it myself, but I have far too many #FLOSS projects on my plate, as it is.

It looks like plugins are in #Python, so the barrier-to-entry shouldn't be too high. manual.calibre-ebook.com/creat

I sometimes wonder why we use the terms, "religion" and "politics", as if they are two separate things.

I'm not that enthusiastic about Google, Apple and Microsoft doing away with as an factor, because it's one of the few areas left on these platforms where people have some control over their own . puri.sm/posts/microsoft-ruined

It is unfortunate to see President Biden hold a press conference cheering some ISPs that are actively undermining his Administration's effort to staff the FCC to promote universal equal affordable access to all Americans.

"LfDI expects schools to offer pupils alternatives to the MS365 #cloud service for #school operations by the summer vacations in 2022.

From the coming school year, the use of MS 365 at schools must be terminated or its data protection-compliant operation must be clearly demonstrated by the responsible schools."

This is how the SA of Baden-Württemberg starts its press release stating that M365 is not #GDPR compliant and it must be discontinued.

Statements Towards the Establishment of a Proof-of-Rest Protocol.

Amazing piece. 🌙 💜 👇

"Work is said to have some discrete value that can be exchanged. But we don't need any more work, especially not in the name of creating & maintaining scarcity. What has truly become scarce & precious in this world is rest." by Em Reed.

You know the bureaucracy has taken over when you are recommended for the job by a senior software leader and you still have to go through every step of the interview process.

Most SWE job descriptions are written to target people with a narrow set of skills and a promise of no autonomy in development direction. IOW, they are written to target fungible engineers, and unfortunately, this is rarely dishonest. If you're ready to work on the software equivalent of a factory assembly line, then this is the job for you!

Couple this with the fact that most SW orgs have no idea how efficient they are, and you get a quagmire job with quicksand. Move on or drown.

Come into work today and find out IT has taken down all the build servers. They are a vital part of our official dev process, so it's a good day to work to rule. :-D

Hello toot friends, I bring #antiLawn memes.
I'm hoping to radicalise you all against the boring monoculture lawn and turn you into biodiversity defenders.

Other than maybe #Pleroma or #WordPress with the ActivityPub plugin, are there any other #Fediverse projects that support multiple post types/kinds/objects so that one could have *one* Fediverse home instead of 10?: stream.boffosocko.com/2022/oth

Big shout out to our dev teams. Thanks to their efforts, we have a free software mobile platform and vibrant third party app ecosystem based on the GNOME stack. And because
we are upstreaming improvements the GNOME experience on desktop has gotten much better at the same time! Read more by @tbernard puri.sm/posts/how-to-be-upstre

When we created ODF 20+ years ago, Microsoft first laughed at the committee at OASIS, then made OOXML to render it moot, then rigged ISO to make OOXML a standard, then implemented ODF and now participates in the ODF committee and helps fund its work through COSM.

#Bluesky is Twitter's OOXML to #ActivityPub and it's at the "rigging ISO" stage.

One of the most important feature requests we've heard from you is "WHERE THE HECK IS MY #THUNDERBIRD MOBILE APP?"

Here's a straight answer:

YES, we're excited to announce that an Android version of Thunderbird is coming!

We'll have more details to share with you in a few weeks. We'll talk to you about it here, and over on our blog at blog.thunderbird.net.
