Does anyone remember specification-based programming? Back in my OS/2 days I met a few people who were big proponents of it. Vibe coding reminds me of a copy of a copy of that, sort of like "specification based programming, only you're drunk and the computer's drunk and you lost your glasses so everything's blurry"

Totally agree. Everybody thinks they personally are immune (just as so many people on Xitter or watching Fox News think they're immune to the cognitive impact of continually floating in the sea propaganda and disinfo) ... but I was really struck by the comment from a researcher in the study about AI autocorrect suggestions swaying people's attitudes:

"In every experiment, the researchers found that participants’ views shifted in the direction of the AI bias. The biggest surprise, Naaman said, was that mitigation measures did not work.

“We told people before, and after, to be careful, that the AI is going to be (or was) biased, and nothing helped,” Naaman said. “Their attitudes about the issues still shifted.”"

Sometimes I see people frustration-post screenshots of Google searches marred by Gemini AI banners.

And that sucks! I'm sorry. But I have to ask: If Google frustrates you… maybe switch away? There *are* no-AI alternatives!:

- noai.duckduckgo.com

- Kagi is an AI-infected search engine, but they offer a "custom CSS" feature (see next post) you can use to remove the AI.

And *this* is the time to get out. Before Google takes the search you're used to away completely: aftermath.site/google-search-a

If you want on to Microsoft's internal network, CORPNET, publish or own an existing a VSCode extension.

The Visual Studio Code Marketplace, which Microsoft own, is completely uncontrolled.

Anybody can publish an extension, it provides code execution on endpoints, extensions auto update by default, "verified" blue tick extensions just need any domain registration, and there's no endpoint security controls at all around what users can install.

VSCode is an absolute security shittip as a result.

“Let’s be clear: The threat of fascism, the erosion of the rule of law and the end of democratic governance are ultimately on the line.”

Rep. Delia Ramirez says Illinois needs an independent prosecutor to investigate alleged crimes by federal agents during Operation Midway Blitz.

It's the tech industry is now going to become surviving wave after wave of layoffs until it's just you and the CEO left then you both can knife fight over who gets to prompt Claude to run the company.

I think this will be the last I'll post on industry-wide layoffs for a bit. It's like posting about the sky being blue at this point.

Google Search rests on a social contract: their bots can crawl our sites, they can index our sites, and they can show excerpts of our sites because

and •only because•

they send people to our sites. •Our• sites, our words, with our design, with our links, with our context and our aesthetics, shared the way we want to share them.

Google is announcing — unambiguously and with great fanfare — that are fully breaking that contract. We should reciprocate.

Tenant unions live or die by what can be said out loud: to neighbors, to reporters, to the public. In Chicago, a landlord tried to make that speech part of the price of settling eviction cases after a rent strike. The result is a story about housing court, legal threats and who gets to tell the truth about displacement.

How we radicalize folks and build relationships for future organizing:

One of the approaches I'm taking to building a small collective in this small #rural #MO town is to do a variety of projects. I mentioned the mutual aid table last week. Yesterday we had our first meeting for a study group for "A People's History of the United States" by Howard Zinn. 8 folks showed up, 9 including me. Just about right for a study group though I would have liked a few more. We're taking it slow and only meeting once a month. I'm hoping at the end of it to have created some long-term relationships with at least a couple of the folks that showed up that I didn't already know.

This text is ideal for helping guide folks to an understanding that the state and #capitalism work together to keep the working class poor and under control. If we want to be free we have no choice but to organize the abolition of both. Anything else will be continued subjugation.
