I'm a bit dubious about comparisons between generative AI and artistic sampling or collage.

Typically in artistic sampling or collage the purpose is not to obscure the fact that the work is derivative.

Just set up a self-hosted instance of FormBricks (formbricks.com) as a Google Forms alternative, to have a look... so far so good... but they're trying to sell a 'premium' version even on the self-hosted instance, and that doesn't sit well with me... Another option is LiberaForms - liberaforms.org/en Might try it, too, before committing to anything.

There's also mention of a per kWh battery price of about US$56... that means a generous home battery of, say, 15kWh could end up around US$1000... putting it well within the range of many people... - that's only 5-7 months' electricity bills for many households here in NZ...

Blimey - according to this: thedriven.io/2024/01/25/worlds the world's largest battery manufacturer, China's CATL will be halving the price of its Lithium Iron Phosphate batteries this year. "This means the price of an average 60 kWh battery pack will have dropped from $US6,776.00 to just $3,388.00 in just 12 months, saving EV manufacturers over $3,000 per vehicle." For the record, our BEV (MG4 Excite) has a 51kWh pack... So we could replace a future failed pack for under US$3k... #BEV #BatteryTech

I'm just going to say it.

Stop all use of Google Drive immediately. There are many other options for sharing data and files.

The spyware built in is bad enough, but they are also judging what you store there and blocking what they don't like. Your files, not accessible to you.

Stop using Google Drive.

Today is the anniversary of the MOVE bombing. The only thing that’s changed is police are far more militarized, far more funded, and far less accountable, while their supporters fly a desecrated flag to explicitly endorse their violent attacks.

The Non-Profit Industrial Complex going about it's grisly business 🤬

To paraphrase the NPIC a-holes featured in the story: "You were exploited before by the capitalist landlord, so we don't have any choice to but screw you even harder now. Maybe if he's screwed you over less we wouldn't have to dispossess you now, but what choice do we have? And your complaining about it only shows that you feel entitled to that which you don't deserve (affordable housing)."

I want to write a brief reply to this emphasizing the importance not just of ownership or arms length governance but of actual self-governance, self-management, and self-organization, on the one hand, and a fundamental social movement orientation, on the other.

Democratic leaders — including Obama & Biden — have spent 15 years telling voters they are outraged about this tax loophole that lets billionaires pay a lower tax rate than everyone else.

But those same Democratic leaders have refused to use their executive branch authority to close the loophole. levernews.com/sirotas-signals-

I can't figure out if mastodon is a high context culture or not. People seem to be expected to give long introductions and do a lot of identity/positionality disclosure, but also an enormous reply guy culture which is defined by low context drive-by. Conversational turn-taking is extremely low compared to other platforms ime, but depth-seeking is high. What an interesting mix.

*obviously, these experiences are all situated within my own network effects, and I'm not well networked here.

Organizational fairness exists upwards and downwards, but critically: LATERALLY. Peers can be a source of *protection* and *repair* after negative mistreatment from authorities, but conversely, mistreatment from peers can also undo the good done by fair leadership (onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/ab). We are all in it together, no one is separate from this

A well-written blog might include a salient title, a resonate introductory sentence, and a "tl;dr" summary of what the author sees as the most relevant information. A summary is not the same thing as a microblogging post within a "thread", however.
