So it seems that trolls of the Trumpist frozen peach variety, mostly those who set up their own Pleroma instances when Parler got taken down, are undertaking a semi-coordinated effort to target journalists who sign up on Mastodon for a couple of reasons...

* Trump has taught them that professional journalism and critical thinking are elitist and bad so lets harass them until they go away

* they are trying to prove some sort of point that this place can be just as toxic as their beloved Frozen Peach in Chief's microblogging site

If you are a journo and you get dogpiled by trolls DO NOT ENGAGE with them at all! Immediately:

1. REPORT them to your instance mods, THEN
2. Block them

Step 1 is very important! This isn't twitter or facebook...mods will take swift action, and if they don't you can migrate instances to better moderated ones...

@scottjenson @lawremipsum On the mastodon home page, the two choices are Get the App and Find a Server. I want to make an account. There is no way from those choices I could deduce 'find a server' is the first step in account creation'.

When I check the menu, there is no Help or FAQ; the only two things that look helpful are Support and Documentation. Documentation generally refers to the technical details of a program; I want user level help. I click on Support. It's GitHub.

@downey @massonpj @mackiwg Yup, and those Microsoft account managers are great at making uni staff 'feel valued'. At both institutions I worked at, the IT teams had an (unofficial) daily uniform that was entirely Microsoft-branded

It's amazing to me, there's US libertarians on birdsite shouting that left libertarians "stole" the term "libertarian" from them.

Extremely funny.

After another long #debugging session with the #librem5 , I decided to publish a comprehensive tutorial for remote graphical debugging with #QtCreator.

May you suffer less, compared to plain #GDB.

Been reading The Work of Living by Maximilian Alvarez and got to a part where he's talking to a miner about recent changes in management where managers are now disconnected from the work they're overseeing. Alvarez talks about hearing the same from a shipwright and a nurse.

Given the widening wealth gap in the USA, then if management can be defined as a wealthier class, it makes sense that new managers would come from families that have had to labor less.

Hey Everybody. Two of the best security communicators and practitioners I know have just launched their book,

Memo to the media: Please don't say inflation is at a 40-year high without also mentioning that corporate profits are at a 70-year high. Give the people the full picture.

We added a new option in called Restricted Boot that only boots self-signed kernels and distro-signed ISOs. I talk about how we approached this feature at length in this blog post: puri.sm/posts/introducing-pure

“Today, we’ve filed a class-action lawsuit in US federal court in San Francisco, CA on behalf of a proposed class of possibly millions of GitHub users. We are challenging the legality of GitHub Copilot (and a related product, OpenAI Codex, which powers Copilot). The suit has been filed against a set of defendants that includes GitHub, Microsoft (owner of GitHub), and OpenAI.”

I cringe anymore when the word "pragmatic" enters a software conversation, because I can pretty much know I'll be discussing things with a "climate change denier" version of a software engineer.

History lesson: Ukraine, Russia, Germany, Poland

Tried my third non-original Bushmills and found a third Bushmills I don't like.
