The EU proposal we submitted in October last year HAS BEEN ACCEPTED!!

It is a "Coordination and Support Action" for open-source chip development.

The full text of the submitted version can be downloaded at:

The project begins today.

During the "Grant Agreement" preparation some significant modifications were requested. In particular, F-Si is no longer the coordinator, but EDI in Latvia.

If my offer's rejected, I tend to lose interest in investing my energies in that collaboration. I encourage the rest of you to do that, too. If you're volunteering make sure you do it on your terms, especially in areas where you know you know better. But remember, if rejecting a tool someone else offers, make sure you provide a positive alternative. Life's too short to be forced to use tools designed to exploit you and your communities.

A reminder to people who use proprietary 'mainstream' digital tools provided (usually 'freemium') by massive US-based corporations within organisations (especially volunteer ones): when you choose to use these tools you, in effect, impose the terms-and-conditions of those tools upon all those you're asking to collaborate with you and your organisation. Some people will - for very good reasons - baulk at that. I know I do. When confronted by it, I offer an open, decentralised alternative.

I think we need a better tool set for grass roots political organisations - they tend to struggle desperately with the digital side of things. I'm convinced that a good handle on that can vastly improve coordination of every other aspect of campaigning. And the US multinational toolsets are both cumbersome, poorly integrated, barely fit-for-purpose, and freakin' expensive. A great opportunity for #FOSS to put paid to those opting for the money and data sucking proprietary stuff.

Misattributing or Misplacing the Blame and Cause GNU/Linux Isn’t More Widely Adopted by Desktop and Laptop Users

IME, there are a lot of computer users who are totally ignorant of how and why Windows became dominant, and they are often more dangerous in their opinions than Microsoft apologists.

Windows was never a choice, and it was never a better OS than it's competitors by any technical measure.

“I think for the layperson, it comes down to trust,” says Kyle Rankin president of Purism (@kyle). “Does this vendor that’s selling you a phone require you to trust them to be secure? And then if so, are they worthy of that trust? It boils down to that.”

MIT Technology Review mentions Purism's Librem 5 in this article by Patrick Howell O'Neill.

holy crap did any of you know about Apache2's built in ACME support

Apache2 can do the exact thing Caddy does and automatically get certs from Let's Encrypt at runtime

you just have to flip it on (per domain name)

Ouch.
"He, too, worried that coöperative values in Mondragon were declining. “We have to keep something different inside of us, something more just, more humane, if we want this model of business to continue,” he said, frowning. I mentioned my own country, America, and he seemed to cheer up. The U.S. was a reminder that things could be worse."

If I had thought about it harder, I wouldn't have taught my kids to express gratitude. It is such a useless act, and anyone who requires it is just being selfish.

Job opportunities:

Someone I know through political volunteering works at Tech Networks of Boston (techboston.com/about-tnb/missi), a company that provides IT services to nonprofits, and they are evidently in a big hiring scramble right now for IT people.
