@lightweight Chomsky commented about why funding goes to fighter jets, nukes. No one knows how much they should cost so it's easy to run political machines off them. Money for local infrastructure would have a lot more knowledgeable people paying attention to the graft? The regime here loves cementing and damming rivers but can't make sidewalks nice for all the electric wheelchair old people. My guess is that it's the same dynamic. Unnecessary tunnels keep democracy at bay and the corps rich.

Looks like ol' Martin finally found his people -- the place where his particular skill-set and outlook on life are appreciated, and rewarded, instead of reviled and punished.

Wikipedia is a non-profit with democratic user governance similar to a cooperative and without any competing alternatives. Despite being one of the most popular websites in the world, there is no venture capital flowing to start-ups that seek to “disrupt Wikipedia” by replacing it.

This is why I can't take national politics seriously. We're given things that are practically indistinguishable from nothing, and told that we should celebrate.

It insulting, frankly, & I'm sick of it. And what's really disappointing is how many people seem to be happy to play along & pretend that their political party of choice is actually legitimately concerned about making the 🌍 a better place (rather than just raking n as much 💰 as possible). smh.

In 2003 I lobbied on the hill with Consumer Fed. of Amer. trying to convince Congress not to include a "we will never negotiate for a better deal with drug companies" clause in Medicare Part D. We were not successful (maybe we should have brought some briefcases filled with cash).

20 years later, we're being told that allowing CMS to negotiate on the prices of 10 whole drugs (and not until 4 years from now) is some kind of victory.
