I just learned that FedCo Seeds is a hybrid worker/consumer co-op that has been around for a good long time: https://www.fedcoseeds.com/
I'm going to join, and I really want to learn more about their experiences!

Nick's put together a good intro to #FOSS apps for people still stuck as renters in a proprietary software world. https://invidious.snopyta.org/watch?v=uundIaRNJ6A or https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uundIaRNJ6A #FOSS just tastes better.

"Big tech is facing an escalating backlash. Co-operatives could offer a more equitable and accountable alternative. In fact, some already do. This article describes three large co-operatives that have managed to take on tech giants such as Amazon and IBM."

Next time someone tells you cryptocurrencies and blockchain are about decentralisation, laugh in their faces. Loudly. While pointing at them.

Anyone out there using Photoprism (https://github.com/photoprism/photoprism) or LibrePhotos (https://github.com/LibrePhotos/librephotos) as a GooglePhotos/Flickr replacement? I'm wondering what you like/don't like, or if you've tried both, which you prefer!
Darn. https://www.bleepingcomputer.com/news/security/microsoft-teams-windows-11-hacked-on-first-day-of-pwn2own/ Well, that should breed enterprise confidence in the Microsoft monoculture :)
The biggest COVID-19 failure is that COVID-19 failed to make a dent in the growth of the world population. It'll probably have a long term opposite effect by raising longevity due to an increase in health research. Of course, climate change is a much bigger killer than COVID-19 and has a better long term outlook, but it also has many extinction outcomes, which isn't desirable. Fighting climate change is only one piece of the capitalism-is-killing-us fight. So much pollution, so little time.
Income Share Agreement? more like Indentured Servitude Agreement.
Many of us were saying this when programs like Purdue's "Back A Boiler" were announced. Now the insidious nature of these programs is coming to light as the US Department of Education is pointing out they are illegally being portrayed as not a loan.
Participants are having to repay up to 250% of the loan's value, and don't have as much recourse as under a regular student loan. Mitch Daniels is a capitalist, raping my alma mater.
Police in #Atlanta made brutal arrests this weekend as hundreds - including pre-school students - marched against #CopCity. Today as police attempted to evict tree-sitters while promoting tired claims of "outside agitators," one local resident fires back. https://itsgoingdown.org/on-many-fronts-why-one-atlanta-resident-is-fighting-to-stop-cop-city/
Ok, so trying to test Mobilizon events... here's a proposed event: https://events.nzoss.nz/@free_and_open_source_virtual_gatherings - see if you can sign up either using a 'federated identity' on another Mobilizon instance (if you have one) or your Mastodon identity...
