👴 OK kids...
Before #Mastodon, before #socialMedia, before the #Web, we had the #BBS.
If you wanna learn from those who came before, here's a comprehensive 5-hour #documentary about bulletin board systems. 🤓
(Of course, given the world back then it's mostly 5 hours of old white guys. So it goes!)
Can't believe after all those posts I forgot to include a link to the membership form. Here it is:
Here's something I've been helping out with for the past couple weeks.
Freedom of the Press Foundation has launched a membership program. You can connect with a community of defenders of Press Freedom and also get SWAG.
I can guarantee the swag is top notch. Wearing my extra soft (and stylish!) FPF hoodie right now.
Not to brag too much, but I designed this logo and now you get to wear it.
Hey previous #RightsCon participants, Access Now is taking money from Amazon, Zoom, Google, and Facebook again for the upcoming conference #rightscon2022.
I think this qualifies as "putting Rightscon's mission at risk" (https://www.rightscon.org/fundingpolicy/), since those companies are a major structural reason that privacy is impossible for many whose rights are threatened. What do you think?

we don't intend to ever get very big. my dream is many many small coops, each tailored to their members' needs, collaborating with each other in networks of mutual aid and solidarity.
if you're considering starting a new enterprise i strongly encourage you to start a coop. if that's interesting please reach out to us! we're also giving a talk on the subject tonight at 7pm EST https://gamecenter.nyu.edu/event/nyu-game-center-lecture-series-presents-andy-wallace-and-ramsey-nasser/
i spent the bulk of the last year getting a worker-owned technology cooperative off the ground! all my paid professional work is now done through the EMMA Technology Cooperative
EMMA is me, @andymakes Ivan Safrin and Gwen Pasquarello. it's an experiment in non-hierarchical consensus-based labor organization, and it has been an absolute thrill to work in a way that aligns with my principles for the first time!
So disappointed that the next round interview is going to be on Microsoft Teams. Would make me cancel the whole process, if I wasn't already working at a company that uses Microsoft. This new job is targeting embedded Linux, which I don't currently have, and I'm expecting to be able to work from a Linux desktop, which I can't do now.
Just invited RNZ (https://rnz.co.nz) and NineToNoon in particular to join this Mastodon after their weekly 'tech pundit', Mark Pesce, blithely dismissed the Fediverse as a viable alternative to Twitter in a segment looking at the implications of the Musk buy-out. I think Pesce makes most of his money by talking about the big centralised badly behaved tech behemoths, and it's in his interest to throw shade at the alternatives that don't fit his narrative & don't offer him punditry value.
As we are a #FOSS community, I thought it would be a good idea to ask: Who is #hiring?
Looking for a new challenge.
I am really good at:
- #infosec marketing
- #technicalwriting
- #marketing
- #infosec
- #scripting (#python)
Hoping to bypass the HR filter. If you are #recruiting at a humane company that respects & values employees, please reach out!
(++ to anyone who picks up on my good/excessive hashtag usage)
SecureDrop is available in 21 languages, thanks to volunteer translators. Do you speak a language other than English? We're always looking for additional volunteers. See this overview by our friends at Localization Lab to get started:

As Free Software Community of India(https://fsci.in), we would like to promote Fediverse on this occassion on our blog post.
Here is a rough draft https://codema.in/d/en04tI5u/a-blog-post-promoting-fediverse-in-response-to-elon-musk-buying-twitter
Any suggestions/feedback to improve it? Trying to write concisely for new users.
