When the company provides a benefit, which has low employee engagement, it's not an employee problem. You'd think that such a statement would be obvious, but companies often berate, cajole, and punish employees to increase participation. #dumballover
Well the increase in cost of COVID-19 self test kits should at least keep those reporting numbers in check. #capitalism

I also note that the Linux Foundation doesn't appear to have a presence in the Fediverse or on any open platforms, instead choosing only to use the centralised proprietary technologies of their board members' employers.
Beeld en Geluid is the Netherlands Sound & Vision museum. They have a massive archive of thousands of videos available on the Fediverse at:

First time snow on the ground today, January 2, in this part of Indiana in unprecedented in my lifetime. The fucking idiots in government are going to fail to stop climate change from getting worse.
Part of what I'm pondering here is a paradox that I've alluded to in the past (https://cybre.space/@dynamic/106409189951101085): is disruption good, or not?
There are two ideas that keep coming up: 1) "we live in an entrenched system with evils built into it and nothing is going to disrupt it", combined with 2) "serious disruption always favors consolidation of power."
I don't know how to balance those correctly, and that really bothers me. The main thing that I get out of the whole thing is: proceed with caution.
It makes me sad to see that conferences of folks I once considered "my community", like linux.con.au, are only using proprietary centralised social media (from what I can see) and eschew distributed open media. I wonder what video conferencing system they'll use, and what back channels. I'm hopeful they'll use #FOSS technologies for that, but seems like a long shot. Most "open" communities seem too harried to actually us open tools. Which strikes lots of sour notes.
I'm encouraged to see the growth of trade schools, not just for young adults who wouldn't be served well by a 4-year degree, but also for older adults who must retool because fewer modern career paths last someone their whole life. https://www.washingtonpost.com/education/2021/12/31/skilled-trade-education-comeback/
I implore any #FLOSS group using #Telegram to consider switching to @matrix for public (unencrypted) and private (#E2EE) chats, and #Fediverse services (Mastodon, Pleroma, Write.as etc) for announcements. And Discourse.
Raise-Op is just $4k short, with a month of fundraising to go.
"Informed by our own members' experiences with housing, this 9-unit building is designed to meet the needs of people in our neighborhood today and 100 years in the future.
"It's a passive house design, which means it consumes very little energy to heat or cool, and it has excellent air quality."

Here's the rub:
#owncast (if you haven't heard) is an awesome, yet still young and growing, live streaming alternative to Twitch/Youtube/etc. There is a small but mighty community regularly using Owncast to stream a variety of content, and development is marching on ( #activitypub #federation is otw! )
However, the project is in need of design help. That's why I'm forwarding the call for designers.

@LeoSammallahti writes about The Staffing Coop (now part of Obran) at #CoopExchange: https://coop.exchange/blog/98aae6de-f8e5-11e9-a6c8-06ceb0bf34bd/we-need-more-worker-owned-staffing-agencies
Hive-mind: are there other examples of or literature about cooperatively owned/run staffing agencies?
Links/suggestions welcomed!
I'm particularly interested in food and ag sector applications, where there are major labor issues a coop approach could be quite helpful in addressing.
