@lightweight Like I said, I use backups as well, and I certainly wouldn't expect a carbon copy of my drive (RAID1) to fix a bad install. For a hard drive failure, the fix is usually just swapping in the carbon copy disk.

@kyle ...so problem avoidance. ;-)
Can you have a solution (solve) without a problem? Note your example wishes require a reason, and both imply problems.

We (@freerange) have started work on a new, co-operatively owned music platform jam.coop. We want to give musicians, fans and the people who work on the platform control, a share of the (eventual) profits and the confidence that we won't be enshittified by external investors.

I'm going to share some things here as we build it. If you're interested, especially if you're a musician willing to try it out, sign up for info at jam.coop - or contact me here!

@edsu All of the Mastodon posts about should probably try to give a shout to @bandcampunited to give the Bandcamp workers a view into what else exists. Maybe some former Bandcamp employees would be interested in helping start/continue music co-ops.

If anyone has any leads for how to tap into, or start, a conversation about what a #co-op run music platform like bandcamp could look like please let me know!

It seems like there must be a very large number of people who would be supportive of a cooperatively run AND FUN site like Bandcamp, that was self sustaining, supported artists, supported its workers, and had a clear governance model.

@lightweight I always do a RAID1 drive as well as backups. It saved me once, but doubles the hard drive budget.

@kyle Are you talking about problem solving or problem avoidance? Your last paragraph seems to factor in productivity with "wants to" vs. a problem solving strategy. e.g., test to fail

When faced with a problem, some people "solve for no" (think of obstacles/reasons it can't be done) and some "solve for yes" (think of ways to do it).

While it's true that some folks default to one or the other approach regardless of the problem, I've found one of the best ways to tell whether someone actually wants to do something (and more accurate than what they claim to want), is whether they solve for no or solve for yes.

New MailChimp TOS just dropped.

"We may suspend the Service to you at any time, with or without cause. We won’t refund or reimburse you in any situation."

That's encouraging...

Is there any good alternative to Patreon other than just making your own website and hoping people donate through that? I had some ideas for projects I could put on Patreon but I'm just not sure they'd get enough interest for the cost/time of running my own website to be worth it for me 🙃

Quick report on my first foray into Friendica. It definitely has some things going for it, but I'm not sure how I feel, on balance.

People are annoyed by Youtube ads. Instead of spending too much energy to disable ads, start to upload your videos on Peertube:

Peertube is to Youtube what Mastodon is to Twitter. But better because people don’t need to create an account, they can subscribe to your videos channel directely with their Mastodon account (or other Fediverse tool).
