When even the *BBC* start putting up articles about Twitter blocking Mastodon - you know the birdman has screwed up big time.

The bird site has suspended Mastodon’s official account.

Someone’s getting twitchy…

The "$285.8m to integrate IT systems" required according to stuff.co.nz/national/education is the cost of a generation of flawed IT decision making and bad procurement in the NZ public & education sectors. This needs to be addressed urgently and decisively by better leadership from the Gov't. Of course, the Gov't is making the very same IT errors, so its endemic. We're in a downward spiral. I know how to reverse it, but nobody's going to want to hear it. The implications are too damning.

Libadwaita keeps getting better! With Libadwaita, it easier to build great-looking apps, this has also meant that most new apps are adaptive from the start. Here is a list of some great apps

We're excited to announce the official launch of the #Forgejo project, a community-driven fork of #Gitea under the stewardship of @Codeberg.

Check out forgejo.org/2022-12-15-hello-f to learn more, including the motivation for the fork, as well as Codeberg's announcement at blog.codeberg.org/codeberg-lau

Come and get involved at codeberg.org/forgejo/forgejo or in our Matrix room matrix.to/#/#forgejo-chat:matr . We aim to be a fully inclusive community and everyone's participation is welcomed.

Hi all, sadly, we have to admit that we lost about 1 day of emails.

Yesterday, about this time, changed unix permissions on a config file broke email delivery for the user Gitea runs with.

Today we investigated reports of missing emails from Gitea, and noticed that all emails since then were completely dropped. We are sorry!

Please check your internal notifications, or re-register if you are still waiting for your activation code.

In today's New York Times a Homeowner Association tried to force a Maryland couple with a native garden to change to a tidy lawn. The complaint was that their garden was "attracting rodents, deer, snakes and bats, and that they were planting shrubs and bushes in no particular order." Yes, in no particular order!

Legal proceedings ensued and there's now a state law forbidding homeowner associations from banning eco-friendly gardens.

For the last several years, there have been unionizing efforts going on at many food co-ops, but I think this is the first I've heard of #CreditUnion employees unionizing. I hope they are successful, and that this is just the first of many. :TwinPines:

Here is an excellent guide to buying (truly) handmade gifts. Including but not limited to members of @coopartisans

“We used to trust Etsy as our go-to shopping place for handmade. But with the sheer number of dropshippers and inauthentic resellers on the site, the Etsy platform no longer earns our automatic trust….We need a genuinely handmade shopping alternative. “

Those "#OSS-loving" corporations *hate* software that uses a Copyleft license (e.g. the GPL, AGPL and other licenses with inheritance clauses) because they can't treat it like gratis R&D they can exploit. I believe proprietary software is ethically tainted (davelane.nz/proprietary) and so I have zero respect for those corporations. As a result, I have a substantially lower impression of institutions/orgs that identify with OSS rather than #FOSS.

When I see folks from organisations talking about #OSS (Open Source Software) rather than #FOSS, I assume they're aligned with Microsoft and 'corporate open source': software released under weak open source (not Copyleft) licenses that is amenable to being exploited by corporations who want to incorporate it (usually contributing little or nothing back to the dev community) into their proprietary services and sell it to their oblivious customers.

Oh, that was a new one.

Got an email from PayPal about a suspicious payment request. I verified the email came from PayPal, but went into PayPal itself to check. Sure enough, suspicious request, and the note indicated it had been flagged, with a number to call.

I called.

And while I was on the call, went to the PayPal "Contact" link... and realized it was a different number.

The attacker was using the INVOICE NOTE to phish for details.

Hoping I didn't expose to much before I figured it out.

I love how #Mastodon lists each time a post was edited, and will even show you what it said after each edit. #MediaWiki-level transparency.

This is my nearly year-long investigation into how Des Moines Public Schools got rid of cops in public schools, implemented restorative practices, and managed to weather a brutal media and anti-public education political storm. Please take a moment to read and share if you find it useful, and informative! Thanks.

When people talk about leaving Twitter for Substack I often ask if they would consider Ghost since it is a non-profit and doesn't have any of the problematic funding of JAQoff heterodox (but right wing or at the very least mostly right wing sympathetic) writers and complete grifters like Joe Mercola. Well now it turns out that Ghost has been powering Substack yet Substack is not only not contributing back despite their hundred million dollars of VC money (including from a16z) but they aren't even doing the bare minimum attribution. It's yet another reminder why if you are building website/webservices software you should use a copyleft license like AGPL. #substack #ghost #OpenSource rattibha.com/thread/1602330377…
