@wion@writing.exchange I think Mastodon isn't a monoculture as it can interact with any server that supports ActivityPub, which allows diverse software projects to exist.
Of course, maybe mastodon subtly encourages those other projects to switch to Mastodon, but I don't know enough to comment on that.
