@system76 This is super fun. But only half works when running Wayland. Is there a newer version which doesn't rely on X11? Also, I feel like a scaling multiplier is necessary in current era of 4K monitors.
@fozztexx @reidrac@social.sdf.org I understand what you are saying, but I respectfully disagree. In my experience, `.sh` 9 times out of 10 just means *some* type of Linux shell script. Even so, I think you need to check the first line to know which one.
The same is true for a `.py` file, is it Python2 or Python3... It's a python script for sure but don't assume the exact interpreter.
IMHO, file extensions are very useful, but they don't tell the whole story.
@tschak In a lot of ways the retrocomputing scene reminds me of the classic car/hot rod scene. Admittedly, the size of those communities has shrunk over the years, however as long as people who are passionate about them show them off to new people to raise awareness, I think they'll continue to exist.
Also, at some point the supply of classic cars dried up. So the existence of kit cars was necessary for the scene to persist. IMHO the #cx16 and others are analogous to kit cars.
@tschak Duly noted. As somebody, new-ish to this scene I feel I should mention that I got interested due to fantasy consoles like #pico8 and more specifically #TIC80. Fantasy consoles are basically the gateway drug to retrocomputing.
At some point in development on a fantasy console you have a thought like, "but wouldn't it be cool to run this on actual hardware...". That's when people make the jump. I also think that things like the #cx16, #agon, and #f256k will help a lot.
@mos_8502 @swetland I do agree with you. I didn't grow up using a C64, so I'm not familiar with this old variant of M$ BASIC. Also, I'm not super keen on the archaic DOS commands that have to be used to navigate the filesystem. That being said, having a well-defined modern retro system with capabilities approximating the SNES is a truly awesome thing.
IMHO writing a game for one of these systems is good enough to check the "Wrote a NES game off the bucket list".
@mos_8502 Just stumbled across your project. Sounds like a really cool idea. FYI I'm planning to buy a #CX16 once they are more available. I like the design and capabilities of the VERA as well as the choice to use SNES controllers. I think using both of these in your design should make it way easier to port games between the two platforms.
I'm a retrocomputing newbie so I can't really help now, but I will be following your progress and will perhaps pick up a finished board.
@santiago While not open source, Discord is multi-platform, has good video quality, and isn't owned by a huge tech company. It is what I use for this sort of thing personally.
If open source is a hard requirement, I might suggest looking into #matrix and #jami . That being said I haven't used either of those for videoconferencing before, so I won't vouch for their quality. Best of luck!

Thank you for all your #opensource contributions!
@foosel @frameworkcomputer If you want to sell a phone with android, that's fine. But please also offer your phones either with Linux pre-installed or offer a no-OS DIY option like you do with your laptops.
I switched over to a Linux phone over a year ago and while there certainly are complications to it, it feels like true freedom and I'm never going back to Android. Perhaps a collab with #postmarketOS would be in order.
@FiveElementNinja The only caveat is that this company seems to historically be slow at shipping things. That said, they did finally begin shipping to customers a week or two ago. I'd recommend checking out a Youtube review of the device. I pre-ordered one back in October, but am still waiting to receive it. I think orders should start going through more quickly at some point but I don't know when. I guess this just gives me more time to develop my #tic80 game before it arrives.
@FiveElementNinja Check out the UConsole: https://www.clockworkpi.com/
@martijnbraam Which app is this?!? I just double checked the default camera App on my #Librem5 and it isn't that one. This app looks like it has way more features, so I'd love to know what it is and where to get it from.
@tschak One of these days I'm going to buy a #CommanderX16 . I've heard there has been an effort towards adding FujiNet to that device. It may take me a while, but some day I plan to join you guys there on one of those.

@peter I ordered an A-06 version of this back in October. Here's to hoping it ships sooner rather than later.
That said, please post about your experience using the CM4 variant, as I think your system will have better driver support than the A-06 variant. I was honestly torn between the two, but if they ever go about releasing a CM5, I'll probably buy an adapter and upgrade at that point.
The clockwork pi uConsole just arrived.
Not bad as it only left Hong Kong on Friday.
It's going to be fun building this later
@sprocket I guess that makes me the odd duck. I used to use odysee a fair amount. I think it's super important to have alternatives to Youtube which allow creators to monetize their content.
As far as the SEC goes, I really despise the organization. They expended all this effort to go after an alternative to Youtube, instead of of giving a hard look at FTX. Supposedly they are supposed to protect investors, however their actions seem to just be about continuing the status quo.
@TastyWheat @solicitor Since I just use it as a lightweight second computer (browsing, email, videos, indie games) I havent had any issues with its specs. With regards to memory specifically, I just created a larger than usual swap partition (of 8gb). With that in place I haven't ever experienced any issues even if I do have a ton of browser tabs open.
