Hey peeps! Do me a huge flavor? I moonlight with the immensely amazing Open Source Hardware Association, and we have a new baby mastodon account. Follow and share it? We know our folks are on here, and would love to reach them.

Have to choose, what should be self-hosted first? With timeframe for second indeterminate.

Tonight for dinner I sauteed the Instant Pot pressure cap.

Ashbery reading tonight, unexpectedly timely:

By the next day, Thursday,
bank examiners blew up the espaliered
orangery like at the charm school
massacre when milady partakes
of mildness, all smilax and curls,
and through the *tonnelle's* damp falls
as though this were a hirsute day
on the river.

Hello! It's time for an #introduction !

I'm the #fediverse embodiment of the #FOSS Governance Collection.

Ever need examples of how other FOSS projects or non-profits do things like voting, privacy policies, codes of conduct, and stuff like that? Then we're the project for you!

The collection is fully catalogued and searchable, thanks to the excellent @zotero #FreeSoftware project.

Follow us to stay up to date on news about the project!

your feelings are valid!!! your syntax unfortunately is not

It used to be the airplane was a bubble. Maybe the captain would come in and say something like “we’re seeing a bit of rain and wind in San Francisco, thanks for flying United.” Now I know we’ve got a typhoon and massive power outages in the Bay Area, there’s a 5.0 earthquake in Ferndale, please stand by for tsunami alerts. I’m not sure in-flight WiFi is such a great idea.

@mjg59 also curious about the thinking behind encouraging speakers to sign an agreement saying they are independent contractors vis-a-vis visa rules.

It's happening... More followers here on Mastodon than on Twitter. And y'all are much nicer here too.

The official announcement came out while I was on the road yesterday: f-droid.org/en/2023/03/20/f-dr

After months of community discussion, board selection, and meetings to establish statutes, roles and regulations we're officially up and running! I'm looking forward to serving as the chair on the inaugural @fdroidorg board!

@meso Unfortunately a lot of AMD cards still require proprietary firmware (even when the driver is free).

@hugo Seems to be doing okay. Host my own incoming mail, use spamassassin, I get basically no messages incorrectly marked as spam (maybe 1 so far this year) and a very tolerable amount of spam still in my inbox. Google's stranglehold on mail has gone too far and I have no idea what can be done about it. Maybe start taking them to small claims court every time they mess up my schedule by losing mail confirming call times.. :P

Even worse, it did not mark my first couple replies to the thread as spam. Then, suddenly, the rest were marked spam.

If you're using Gmail, you're sort of not really using email.

I'm not writing an entire blog post about how stupid a US TikTok ban would be because this is all that needs to be said:

If the Chinese government is in your threat model, don’t install TikTok on your device. Otherwise, your actual problem is surveillance capitalism.

Seriously, what is up with Gmail marking replies to an existing 3-party thread as spam? How is that in any way defensible?

:fdroid: After several months of hard work, it's a good feeling to be able to say our @fdroidorg board of directors is officially chartered and running, and finally with an official legal entity through Dutch stichting (foundation) Commons Conservancy.

💚 Very humbled to be able to serve in this inaugural group of talented volunteers, and even more excited about helping #FDroid into the future.

🎉 We're growing! Our global #FDroid community is pleased to announce that we now have an official governance plan and a brand-new volunteer Board of Directors. We're excited to work with them to keep improving the leading all #FOSS mobile app catalogue!

I need a "new" PCI-E video card. Requirements 1) No proprietary firmware or driver required. 2) HDMI and/or DisplayPort 3) Can do 1440p.

Nice to haves: 1) Known to work with coreboot 2) Small (case room is a bit of an issue)

Other stats, including age, not important.

Tried a
Gigabyte GV-N670OC-4GD with Nouveau but it failed with bizarre option ROM behavior -- frustrating experience -- so if you have any suggestions, I'd love to hear.
