I need a "new" PCI-E video card. Requirements 1) No proprietary firmware or driver required. 2) HDMI and/or DisplayPort 3) Can do 1440p.

Nice to haves: 1) Known to work with coreboot 2) Small (case room is a bit of an issue)

Other stats, including age, not important.

Tried a
Gigabyte GV-N670OC-4GD with Nouveau but it failed with bizarre option ROM behavior -- frustrating experience -- so if you have any suggestions, I'd love to hear.

@johns #Trisquel 11 now has better support for old amd cards using radeon drivers, and possibly some amdgpu cards too, so you might be able to find an older compatible model that still has the ports you're looking for.

@iank may know more about specific model numbers, but the radeon cards we switched to between days of LibrePlanet were very stable.

@meso Unfortunately a lot of AMD cards still require proprietary firmware (even when the driver is free).

@johns @meso Yeah no proprietary firmware basically means you're gonna be dealing with TeraScale at latest. Maybe one of the last nouveau-compatible cards might also be good given what you're asking?
@johns @meso nvm just read OP, yeah, your options are gonna be pretty limited but anything that works with radeonsi should be a free pass as far as firmware issues go
@johns i have no idea about coreboot, but recently got a Radeon rx6400 and had zero issues so far, I believe the driver is open source too. It's surprisingly tiny and cheap.
