Today we #celebrate the 30th birthday of #debian, one of the largest and most important cornerstones of the #OpenSourceCommunity. With its revolutionary package management system and unwavering commitment to free software, the many Debian developers have now shaped the Linux universe for over three decades. We at TUXEDO also ultimately build our TUXEDO OS on the foundation of Debian. For this we would like to thank you very much and wish you the best for the next 30 years!
By the way, if you want to know more about the history of #GNOME I can totally recommend this talk by @blandford who's been around for a long time as well
#Debian https://www.debian.org was founded on this day (Aug 16th), in 1993.
Happy 30th anniversary, Debian!

30 Years of Stability, Security, and Freedom: Celebrating Debian’s Birthday

Happy 30th birthday, Debian! Inspiring generations, you shine as a symbol of open-source ideals, innovation, and community.
Today, #Debian turns 30 years old.
A milestone achieved only by serious, concrete projects with clear objectives.
My journey with Debian began three years after its inception, and for the past 27 years, Debian has been a constant companion in my daily life. It has never let me down, both in its "pure" form and as a foundation for other projects like #Proxmox, etc. Even now, it remains my favorite Linux distribution (alongside Alpine Linux).
Happy birthday from the #BSDCafe community, Debian! 🎉
I am on an impromptu trip to an unfamiliar area due to a family emergency, and my rental car had no navigation built in. This meant I truly needed to depend on live turn-by-turn GPS navigation in Pure Maps on my Librem 5 for the first time.
It actually worked great! I packed a car vent magnetic mount and I was able to route to various destinations, reroute automatically, and otherwise use it like you'd expect.
Odysee as a platform has always given me bad vibes, and I could never explain why. Well, turns out that the CEO is a libertarian techbro who cosies up to white nationalists, wants to lock up Fauci in Gitmo and torture “every government regulator” 🤡
RIP bozo
@dcz presented how you can add/adapt keyboard layouts for #squeekboard, the OSK used by default in #phosh
Afterwards Prawn talked about Kupfer, a distribution derived from #arch and currently focused on "ex-Android" devices.

I'm really excited for the next release of geoclue: I have worked with the devs to make it functional with #mobilelinux:
https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/geoclue/geoclue/-/merge_requests/159
https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/geoclue/geoclue/-/merge_requests/155
https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/geoclue/geoclue/-/merge_requests/160
and GPS works really well with Pure Maps. This was honestly one of the few things that I have really missed when I left Android.
@hackernews
#ubuntu is (or at least started as) #debian #unstable freezed every 6 months. Please, explain how a rolling Ubuntu based distro differs from Debian unstable 😃

Second day of our building week and some rooms are already hardly recognizable. We have a few working sites across Kanthaus where people are working in small teams. Coordination and #reproductiveWork (cooking, cleaning, child care…) is also significant, with about 20 people in the house.
