I actually did not believe that flat earthers even existed until a couple of years ago. I thought they were just internet trolls. Then, I met one in real life. Other than the flat earther part, he actually came across as fairly intelligent. When I found out that he actually believed the earth was flat, it blew my mind.

@emilis
The battery is not great, but it is much improved from the pinephone. Since it is my daily driver, I haven't let it sit all day, but my guesstimation is that just powered on not being used, the battery would probably last 8-10 hours.
With the pinephone, I carried a charger with me everywhere that I went. Now I leave it in the car.
I am using stock PureOS.

@tuxdevices
I am in year 3 daily driving a linux phone. First I had the og pinephone, then the pinephone pro, and now the librem 5.
It is not to the point that I would recommend it to most people, but it is really really close to the point that I can recommend it to some people.

@realcaseyrollins
I actually liked Trump as president, so I am not as perturbed as you. That said, we are a long way from the primaries much less the election. I would not trust any polling.

@skypage @thor
In the case of the guy that I work with, I imagine that he was a hard worker in his previous field, because he is a hard worker here. He struggles. There are concepts that seem simple to me because I have been doing it for a while that he struggles with, ne he keeps pushing forward and learning.
You don't have to be the exception to the rule in intelligence. You do need to be the exception in work ethic and in your unwillingness to give up.

@skypage @thor
We have a guy that started as a network engineer for my company last year. I don't know what he did before, but I do know that it was not remotely related to what he does now. He somehow crippled his arm, which forced him to change fields. He is still at the beginning of a long path of learning, but he is in his 40's and making it happen.

@starlily @omglinux
It is endorsed by the Free Software Foundation.
I am not a fan of it though.. I had it on a computer and wanted to install python for a specific app. It blocked the install of python because it can be used yo install non-free software. It can also be used to install free software which is what I was doing. IMO, Trisquel does not respect my freedom to install software of my choosing on my pc.

@rbreich
Wasn't it the Democrats that just bailed out a bunch of millionaires when they knowingly had more money in the bank than the FDIC insurance would cover?

I met someone else on campus who has a #librem5

I think this qualifies for the highest concentration of L5's/campus.

@malwaretech As a working class conservative who will actually retire as a millionaire without winning the lottery or coming up with that one "great" idea, let me explain how.
First, I graduated college debt free. I took 8 years to graduate, and worked as a janitor cleaning toilets so that I could pay for it as I went.
Then, I avoided debt through the rest of my life. I buy old, used cars with cash and I don't try to live like I have money that I don't.

@malwaretech
Then I bought a house that was a fixer upper, but it allowed me to by it cheaper and get it paid off quickly. I now have my own home, no debt, and I put 15% of my income into a Roth 401k. I will retire as a millionaire without hitting the lottery or doing anything crazy. All it takes is hard work and patience.
You do not have to steal money from some billionaire to get rich. You do not have to win the lottery to get rich. All you have to do is work hard and be patient.

@malwaretech
Having read through all of the replies to this thread, I think that I understand why you and everyone else are baffled by working class conservatives (or conservatives in general). I am convinced by reading through this thread, that you and everyone else in this thread with the exception of one, have never actually met a conservative whether working class or not. Everyone in this thread simply likes to stay in their bubble and choose to hate something they have never met.

I'm not writing an entire blog post about how stupid a US TikTok ban would be because this is all that needs to be said:

If the Chinese government is in your threat model, don’t install TikTok on your device. Otherwise, your actual problem is surveillance capitalism.

@dos
Happy to hear it. Eventually, I will find time to get on the forums and get my vpn and hotspot worked out. Then I should be pretty close to all set up.

@fabrice
I never had a good quality phone call on the pro. The people on the other end would hear their own echo which was very distracting to them. Other than that, they are pretty close. I do also like the hardware kill switches in an accessible location. I never used them on the pro.

@hans @purism
I had begun to feel that way myself. Hang in there. My guess is that they will be caught up with their backlog by August. (I've been wrong about that guess many times, so take it with a grain of salt.)

I'm pretty sure Mastodon is the first social network I've been on that didn't immediately ask me to betray all of the people in my address book.
