To all Mastodon-admins: seems like there's an attack on all instances by troll accounts. Servers get slow because of it.
They use thousands of subdomains of activitypub-troll.cf. My 'pull' queues skyrocketed.

I now blocked the domain activitypub-troll.cf and all is back to normal. Please check if you're hit too.

Today's video (Day 61!!!) is on using systemctl to manage SystemD services. Sound confusing? It's not, I promise! 90daysofmayhem.com/posts/day_6

1999!
Photos from Ireland here in my feed today inspired me to reread one of my Irish-relates stories I wrote, very much written with inspiration from my one and only visit at Ireland. I had a fun time to reread this great story ;-). Less fun for you, but it does not stop me from sharing it here: hemrin.com/stories/21-listen-t

When I write a post here, I am limited to 500 characters (url:s beyond 23 (if I remember correctly) are excluded from counting). But sometimes I see posts that are far longer. Have you seen it also? Anyone that can explain?

If you think you may ever lose Internet connectivity due to State obstruction or other disasters but still need access to Wikipedia there is an excellent software for that, free of cost and open source.
@kiwix (kiwix.org) runs on Android, Linux, Windows, macOS/iOS, etc.

Does of course require you keeping a previously downloaded copy of the content downloaded b̲e̲f̲o̲r̲e̲ you lose the connectivity.

It also has other content such as Stack Overflow, Project Gutenberg, Surviving Disaster (a.k.a. Canadian Prepper), TED Talks, etc for completely offline use.
You can see what content is available to choose from at their library.kiwix.org/ library page.
The English language version of Wikipedia for example exists as variants such as one with "only" the 50000 "best" articles without pictures at 2GB and the full version with every article including pictures and such at 89GB.

The proposal from the German government that it should be easier to become German, citizenship, is interesting and encouraging in the context from Swedish perspective where our government currently is working in opposite direction.

Series of Dreams!
I like the beat in this semi-old BobDylan song from 1991. Also the lyrics, although I as usual understand far from all. (By the way, do you Americans and other English-native understand all in this and other of his songs?)

Seeing reports that Huawei is censoring posts about the #A4Revolution in #China, automatically deleting photos from phones w/o informing users. (twitter.com/MsMelChen/status/1)

This is why privacy advocates criticized #Apple for trying to launch a feature last year to scan all photos on user devices—before they’re uploaded to iCloud.

Even if the feature is developed for good purposes (like stopping CSAM), the risks to #privacy are dangerous.

What's that I see? A new RawTherapee 5.9 release! After two years the team has just released a brand-spanking new version of my personal raw image editor!

If you haven't tried it - why not?! It's literally free, powerful, and you can be cool like me! :D

Anyway, the web browser is supposed to work for you, and there is an open W3C forum to discuss. Right now we see mostly the usual #bigTech and #adtech firms, but the browser is supposed to work for the user, so would be good to get more different user points of view.

The Biopinion, in Biophotonics Nov-Dec 2022 issue, discusses the problem "Medical research has a long, unfortunate track record of excluding ethnic and racial minority groups from clinical trials... [...] This has led to increased morbidity and mortality in minority groups. [...] We found that industry-sponsored trials (as opposed to investigator-initiated ones) were significantly less likely to include people of color than non-industry-sponsored trials." USA study. I installed Linux Mint operating system with full disc encryption. To do that, I must also choose between LVM and ZFS. I selected LVM as I have used that before and has worked without any issue. But maybe the ZFS file system (I suppose that means instead of eg ext4) would have more benefits, but then I have to learn it. What would be your choice and why? hemrin.com/walking-to-linux/36
