The Librem 5 (and mobile GNU/Linux in general) has matured a lot over the years, but there are still some areas where the software stack is behind the hardware capabilities. Some of them are often talked about, such as camera quality or GPU (GLES3/Vulkan/OpenCL), but there are also lesser known ones in need of some plumbing and middleware infrastructure. Maybe you'll find something interesting to hack on there?

Open source powers so much of the world, but the people behind it often go unseen. It was wonderful to meet so many maintainers and contributors in person at an event like @FOSSBackstage. These are real people doing critical work on that we all rely on, and they deserve all the recognition and appreciation. A huge thank you to everyone who gives their time and energy to FOSS, and a special thank you to these individuals (and their teams) who have worked with the Sovereign Tech Agency. 1/

The initial draft MR to put a wallpaper on #phosh's lockscreen is now >1.5y old but it's not draft any longer 🎉 (I'll spare you the details why this took so long).

I've broken my Librem 5 finally. What's the best linux phone right now (no libhybris)? What phones work best now?

Successfully tested receiving #cellbroadcast messages on the #PinePhone as well:

# _build/test/mmcbmmonitor
[/org/freedesktop/ModemManager1/CBM/0] new cbm: received
4371: Hallo, this is a CBS test message

So hopefully all devices supporting `+CSCB` on an AT port should now be able to show these messages in #phosh (if the MR makes it into the next #ModemManager release).

The #osmocom stack is such a great help for testing these things.

As there's often the question how to move the cursor when using phosh-osk-stub as OSK: Here's a short demo. If you *really* want cursor keys one can add add them as keys to the terminal layout's shortcut bar via

gsettings set sm.puri.phosh.osk.Terminal shortcuts "[<yourothershortcuts>, 'Up', 'Down', 'Left', 'Right']"

#Phosh #LinuxMobile

@phosh Thank you! Was just about to look for how to do this!

77 commits later, and #libobscura has a scripting system good enough to initialize a #USB #Camera

So it's back to the same functionality, except with extra complexity, lol.

Next up: organize the commits (don't leave a mess if you want contributors) and make sure #librem5 works the same way.

@agx @phosh Thanks for the warning! Any progress is good progress :)

@phosh Particularly excited about the cell broadcast support! Nice work Phosh folks!

I've been daily driving a Librem 5 mobian for awhile now. It's a bit slow, but gets the job done. Main complaint is that sometimes the modem stops working every once in awhile and needs to be switched on and off.

Anyone else lost audio running mobian Trixie on the Librem 5?

@williamtries My experience is that the soarklan doesn't help much. I did find switching to Mobian Trixie helped a lot. It does still skip a little though

@semiprime any chance of it getting put into mainline debian or flathub?

@tuxdevices Where does one get this? The flatpakone won't install and there's nothing in the pureos store. I'm on a librem 5

Also, very nice dos! I look forward to playing with it!

I agree. To me this sort of thing also provides peace of mind. I've been seeing more and more expectation that one has a smartphone, and thus the ability to run android or iOS apps.

I'm concerned that some day when traveling I'll run into a circumstance where I need to have some app running on my phone to do something.

Thus having the capability to run an andriod app gives some piece of mind in that area. Even if I don't have any need right now.
