@meraord jag håller med!
-----
Pojkarna
Jag minns den ljufva tiden,
Jag minns den som i går,
[...]
Uppå min mun var löjet,
Och hälsan i mitt blod,
I själen bodde nöjet,
Hvar människa var god,
Hvar pojke, glad och yster,
Var strax min hulda bror;
Hvar flicka var min syster,
Hvar gumma var min mor.
[...]

@JRepin @AV @EDPS@social.network.europa.eu @EDPS_supervisor @EU_Commission@social.network.europa.eu @nextcloud I agree, the EU must stop using Microsoft/Google solutions, as long as that goes on any talk of digital sovereignty is pointless. There is no sovereignty as long as EU keeps using Microsoft/Google stuff. Getting rid of Microsoft/Google dependencies should be a high priority for the EU.
Using #FreeSoftware solutions is much better, much more democratic and makes true digital #sovereignty possible while strengthening #democracy.
@AV @EDPS @EDPS_supervisor @EU_Commission @nextcloud Yes, using libre and opensource solutions is the only way to go to preserve freedom, privacy and digital sovereignty. Also remember the principle Public Money, Public code: https://publiccode.eu/
#Privacy #OpenSource #FreeSoftware #DataProtection #GDPR #PublicMoneyPublicCode #Transparency #Accountability #Freedom #Sovereignty
@EDPS @EDPS_supervisor @EU_Commission
A switch to @nextcloud seems like the way to go? Some French, German and Swiss government agencies already use Nextcloud (https://nextcloud.com/government/)
“Email is a minuscule text file that you transmit across the internet. To claim that you don’t have the competence to arrange that yourself is a sign of administrative incompetence”, says Michiel Leenaars in an interview on Radio 1. He’s is responding to a recent report of Clingendael Institute warning the Dutch government has squandered cloud sovereignty by outsourcing storing vital & sensitive information to American providers. Fikasugen?
Those who live around northern Stockholm might know this sign, it's pretty big, you see it if you follow Norrtäljevägen into the city, just before you reach Roslagstull. It's below the old Roslagstulls sjukhus and Albanova, next to the new part of KTH called Albano campus.
It usually shows ads aimed at all the people in their cars heading into the city. This particular morning however, all the people in their cars got a special message about the badness of Microsoft and Google instead. 😄

Walked past this on my way to work the other day. It's like that The Sound of Silence song
"and the sign flashed out its warning..."
but wait, the sign did not say anything about the words of the prophets, instead it said "oops" and "Microsoft" and "your computer is low on memory, close Google Chrome" 😄
Okay, let's heed the warning from this sign: never use Microsoft or Google products, for anything, ever. Don't let them fool you. Don't but their "AI" bullshit either.

@neil not too late to start! I think you should at least have this one https://static.fsf.org/nosvn/stickers/thereisnocloud.svg
@neil none of them

@vkc I think you did this one perfectly 🙂
I'm at the point of begging my fellow academics:
Don't be so fucking gullible when it comes to tech companies and don't do their PR work for them
Your seminar on "using AI responsibly" is just volunteer PR work for a tech company
Your partnership with Meta is just volunteer PR work for a tech company
They are lying to you and manipulating you and it's embarrassing how bad you are at spotting this
@seanfobbe It would be much better to let students grade their own essays, as Phaedrus does in Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance. 🙂
@seanfobbe hmm ok so we have one machine generating text trying to mimic what a human could have written, then that machine-generated text is fed into another machine that tries to process it, perhaps producing some other text as a result. It all seems pointless, nobody learned anything.
However it's not like nothing happened. Money was probably paid to Microsoft and/or Google (they are the winners here), and lots of computational resources were wasted.
> Are you paying for the ai/robot service?
I guess we are all paying in the sense that those high-tech plagiarism machines are mainly useful for faking things, they are tools for fraud.
For those of us interested in communicating with other human beings, there is a price to pay in that we will be increasingly surrounded by machine-generated bullshit instead of meaningful communication.
The world needs things like honesty, peace and democracy, not auto-generated bullshit text.
