@foufoutos @EUCommission I suspect to prevent people paying for national insurance in one country but using another country's better, but much more expensive healthcare system en masse. For example, if Polish insurance had to pay the rates of German hospitals, it would go bankrupt.

As someone who is totally blind, the Fediverse is the only place where I have ever been able to follow people such as photographers, artists, or even those who post pictures of their cats or the food they ate. The reason is that most of them use alt text. They take the time to describe the images that my screen reader can't recognise. Some write the descriptions themselves, and others use tools such as altbot. Some worry that their descriptions aren't good enough, especially when they are new at this. Let me assure you, not only are they good enough, they are extremely appreciated! If the rest of the world thought as you did, it would be a much better place. Don't hesitate to ask if you're unsure of something, but never think that we don't notice your effort.

@arno_in_sing @noelreports Indeed. The fiber optic cable without any protective wrappers is very thin.

@Aegewsh @zaufanatrzeciastrona Podobno jakieś instytucje unijne same kontaktowały się z zespołem GrapheneOS w sprawie Play Integrity API i podejrzenia, że Google wykorzystuje je do nieuczciwego monopolizowania rynku.

@itsfoss Yet another lesson about why software freedom matters. Get a Prusa instead.

@zigi_now9 @EUCommission Personally, I hate the sickly white color of typical LED streetlights. They should have very warm colors instead. They would still reproduce colors reasonably well, unlike monospectral sodium lamps.

@Fat_Farang @eff @TheNewStack As I see it, AI is a tool, like a box of matches. It's perfect for starting a campfire, lighting candles, even determining airflow direction. The thing is, we have plenty of companies handling matches in an unsafe manner, other companies telling people that matches cure acne and even companies running around setting things on fire.

@itsfoss I don't understand the outrage. On-device speech-to-text, text-to-speech and translation are very useful. They are 100% private, unlike Google Translate and other proprietary on-line services.

@eva_chaos @noelreports 10 is more than enough for a PR stunt, which is what this is.

@Eternal_Light@mastodon.social @itsfoss For example, Easy Anti-Cheat has support for Linux, but game developer doesn't have to enable it. With Linux support disabled in EAC, you can usually run the game on Linux, but you can't join matches.

And yes, single-player games tend to work well and even many multiplayer games do.

BTW Linux 6.14 should include the NTSYNC driver, which boosts performance of many Windows games running in Wine.

@noelreports Any peacekeeping force must include troops from nuclear states. Otherwise Putin will keep piling on little "incidents" up to openly attacking the peacekeeping troops.

@Eternal_Light@mastodon.social @itsfoss I suspect most games that don't work on Linux don't work because of incompatible anti-cheats or game developers intentionally disabling Linux support (for example in anti-cheats).

@noelreports Ammo depots are perfect targets. Stationary, important and usually no one dies.

@josephcox Online ads are even more of a cancer than TV ads and billboards.

@aires @theintercept @jilliancyork @eff That was written before EFF learned about hate speech changes; they only knew the earlier FB announcement that did not mention changes to "hateful conduct" policy. They updated their article to reflect that: eff.org/deeplinks/2025/01/eff-

@synijlymon @noelreports My thoughts exactly. There's also the possibility of GPS jamming/spoofing causing the drone to hit the wrong target or the drone simply malfunctioning.

Side note: GPS jamming/spoofing can explain some of Russia's civilian building hits. Not all though, as many Russian weapons feature robust inertial navigation, some even laser guidance or visual target recognition and those weapons have also been observed hitting civilian targets.

@mt @eff They updated the article with this info:

"Update: After this blog post was published (addressing Meta's blog post here), we learned Meta also revised its public "Hateful Conduct" policy in ways EFF finds concerning. We are analyzing these changes, which this blog post does not address, and will provide an update soon."

CC: @cairobraga Turns out they did not know it when publishing.

@cairobraga @eff There's always a lot of lurkers. If I didn't engage, I'd still not know about it.
