Visiting an EU country?

State-provided healthcare is available with the European Health Insurance Card.

Get emergency medical treatment under the same conditions as nationals in 🇪🇺 27 EU countries and 5 non-EU partner countries.

The EHIC is there if you need:

⚕️ help with acute illnesses, accidents, and chronic conditions;
⚕️ maternity care, including childbirth;
⚕️ renal dialysis;
⚕️ oxygen therapy and other medical equipment.

Get your card at your national health insurance provider.

@EUCommission Why do we need to have the card?
Why the identity card of a country member of EU is not enough?

@foufoutos @EUCommission I suspect to prevent people paying for national insurance in one country but using another country's better, but much more expensive healthcare system en masse. For example, if Polish insurance had to pay the rates of German hospitals, it would go bankrupt.
