@zacchiro I get the feeling, but I think that's unfair the decades of work Mozilla has already put in to keeping the browser ecosystem more focused on users. Mozilla is a problematic organization for sure, but it is also the only major force in the browser ecosystem with some kind of focus on putting users first. What else is there?

That bug report is a trivial no-brainer that calls on #Mozilla to simply state that users should be put first, exactly as you are advocating. And they are struggling with that.
@hyakinthos @zacchiro I'd say we should judge them based on their decades long track record rather than details of the manifesto. Plus is there any organization or approach that can realistically replace #Mozilla?

The manifesto update was inspired by their track record of making anti-user decisions. It speaks volumes that they hesitate to amend the manifesto with a simple no-brainer clause for user focus.
Under the current shitty state of affairs, the “replacement” would likely be a Mozilla fork by a user-focused org. Perhaps Tor Browser, but I’m not deeply aware of all the forks.

@hyakinthos @zacchiro The Tor Project is not a good candidate, they have actually been trying to lessen their involvement in browser work for a while. It is difficult and resource intensive. It does help that #Mullvad is now contributing. More orgs and devs should join in!
@eighthave Tor Browser would obviously be a better candidate than stock FF. For one they go to great lengths to reduce browser print uniqueness, such as having a fixed set of window geometries (as opposed to each user signalling their exact window size).
I don’t know much about Mullvad’s browser but apparently it’s VPN-specific, which can be useful when you don’t need anonymity.
