@StampedingLonghorn @devinprater what! I thought you meant there was a little reset type button you needed a pin to press for 3 seconds to unlock your computer 🤪

Of course Elsevier's "enhanced pdf viewer" tracks where you click, view, if you hide the page, etc. and then transmits a big base64 blob of events along with ID from University proxy when you leave. I'm sure straight to SciVal for sale.
Is this the way we want science to work?

A good video looking at the carbon impacts of meat. I rarely eat meat because of the sustainability issues. 26% of carbon emissions is from farming and I feel this is the only industry we cannot just switch to a carbon neutral version. It requires personal change 😔

@be I think it was to allow you to use it with GPL code.

@hn250 interesting, I never did calculus in highschool and went on to do physics at University. Long after uni I enjoy watching maths videos and doing some of the basic maths to see how different aspects of maths is connected and apply to life. I feel like this is a good approach so people see maths all around them and how it's connected. Outside of uni you don't do pure maths, but knowing is important.

@markusl @be having to defend yourself from being called an abuser does not make you a victim. Trying to sweep issues under the carpet only makes things worst and tone policing does that.

I read an article from RAC about buying a new car. Does anyone see how their own stats don't prove their point?

Unpopular opinion: One should never call themselves an expat. Sure, it used to have a specific meaning, but nowadays, its meaning is just "privileged (white) immigrant".

Ever since I moved to Berlin, I made a point to call myself an immigrant, and it was surprising how many low-key racists got confused by that, as they preferred to call white immigrants expats to differentiate that from "the bad ones".

Note, you're not bad for calling yourself an expat, but it's worth a reevaluation.

@lee it's been 10 months since I deleted all my Facebook accounts. Overall worth it.

@petrichor this would definitely help as I usually only use they and that can also be for multiple people.

@uoya unlike Intel, Apple is not incentivised to make sure code written for an old processor works on the new processor. Planned obsolescence

@uoya the software my company writes does not work on the M1 and we need to do a lot of work. So a lot of old software will not work. When the M2, M3, MX comes out, will your hardware and software be supported?

Dear doubters, it is now 10 months of global vaccination. More than 6 billion doses have been administered. We know about all the common and rare side effects. #GetVaccinated. It is safe. And it stops the pandemic. Please do your part, just as billions have already done.

@devinprater good or bad, due to EU regulation Apple's next phone will have USB C.

@blindscribe after listening I watched a few shows with audio description. Brooklyn 99 had 10 words the whole show, nothing. Travelers on Netflix was good. But it missed some of the emotion on screen and the directive stern voice pulled me away from the story. If producers put more into the budget, could audio description be more like a narration throughout the show?
