Zum Ende der Sommerpause der Salonabende im Schätzchen, dem Café für Schöne Dinge & Salonkultur, war ich am 10. August eingeladen, einen Vortrag über das Fediverse und Friendica als Alternative zu den kommerziellen Plattformen wie Facebook, Instagram und nebenan.de zu halten.

Das Fediverse ist ein Netzwerk von unterschiedlichen Social Media Plattformen, die alle als Freie Software umgesetzt sind. Die Knoten des Netzwerks, also die einzelnen Installationen bzw. Dienste, kommunizieren dabei über offene Protokolle mit einander, ähnlich wie man es von E-Mails her kennt. Damit können die Nutzerïnnen der einzelnen Dienste im Fediverse, über die Grenzen der jeweiligen Dienste hinweg, mit allen anderen Nutzerïnnen interagieren

This was NOT obvious before Snowden. Everyone kept making excuses for why encryption kept failing to be deployed to solve spam and assure privacy when it was the obvious best answer. We were constantly assured that no, our privacy was Very Important, best minds were working the problem, it would be solved any day now. We trusted the experts. It was unthinkable that there could be deliberate malice and sabotage at work.

Snowden revealed that to be a lie.
