This opt-in requirement is critical, and the precise thing tech orgs successfully lobbied to remove from the CCPA:

Wow, y'all have blown up the tag for #pinephone... it's not too far off the mark for the "trending now"s for the entire Mastodon network!
I was up all morning waiting for the servers to come back up! Thankfully got mine and was able to sleep!
Pinephone early birds crashed the pine store... Been waiting 45 minutes now for the site to come back up, with nothing to show it will come back soon.

This article about Google's project to store and analyze millions of Americans' health care data confirms my suspicions about the Fitbit acquisition.
Many people who don't care about mass data collection because "I've got nothing to hide" change their tune when it's health care data. #privacy

Our #PinebookPro kernel just got sound support!
It's still a work in progress though, but it's in the newest kernel update for linux-pinebookpro.

The original pinebook laptop that cost $99 dollars will be getting a CPU upgrade kit early next year if the cooling solution they came up with works out.
I expect in the future we'll see upgrade parts for the pinephone too, but it will be some time before then.

@omgubuntu Pinephone, for now. Maybe a librem 5 in the future when they get the 14nm CPU die bump.
I'm highly excited for brave heart. Looking forward to getting a pinetime eventually too!
There is a high possibility of pine64 offering upgrade kits eventually which would bump the specs of the phone and allow you to reuse the shell/display (the original pinebook for example is likely to get upgrade kits). I doubt we'll see any changes to the screen or casing for a few years though, due to the high cost of the molds and the amount of money they spent on testing/research.
@todd I'd like to see more updates on the hardware development front of the phone.
