Poking around JDK 21 assembly output for Panama native calls, and it’s looking good! Here’s the body of a loop calling a “helloworld” native function, with everything inlined up to the “linkToNative” downcall, which receives native function info and redispatches. Nearly direct!

Turns out you on a #Librem5 you can install android in a container and it runs at native speed. The android window shows as an app, so I can just use an android app if I find a native version lacking, neat!

@csoriano That explains why there was such a focus by those developers on libei during the GNOME 45 cycle. It makes sense as it will resolve 3/7 remaining issues on Project Wakefield.

@orowith2os Thank you for helping Mutter catch up to Kwin in gaming!

@johanvos I have always felt the same with the conference Oracle Openworld.

@EgyptianAphorist I certainly will. I appreciate you sharing it with me.

@thelinuxEXP @jorge @frigidcode carbonOS, GNOME OS, Endless OS, ChromeOS, and Android are immutable, atomic, and fully image-based.

I don't think Vanilla, Silverblue, Ublue, etc are immutable. They are atomic, and they're a hybrid between image- and package-based.

MicroOS would just be atomic.

NixOS is its own beast. It's atomic. I don't really see it as immutable or image-based

IMO, it's hard to find some term to lump all these distros together. They all do very different things...

@tbernard The fact that an abstract symbol still encourages users to treat it like a menu for the OS is a stunning and amazing find.

@EgyptianAphorist Thank you for enriching the platform with such unique and enriching content.
