The difference between a good designer and a great designer is in their ability to not only solve problems but also to articulate how their design solves it. In fact, I would go so far as to say that a designer’s ability to be thoughtful about a problem and articulate any solution is more important than their ability to design the perfect solution every time.

Remember when we had to manually UUencode binary files to attach to emails? Now we can send an entire Iomega Zip drive full of attachments through email!

Our email addresses & cell phone numbers are arguably better global identifiers than gov't issued IDs. Marketers know this & use these handles to track us. @simplelogin CEO Son NK will show us how to throw them off our trail using aliases. #privacy

@joelle @bert_hubert When you answer those captcha about traffic lights and zebra crossings you're actually driving someone's Tesla.

I emailed #IFTTT about adding #Fediverse apps like #Mastodon, #Pixelfed, #Misskey & #WriteFreely & they really liked the idea! They wanted to talk to the platform creators & will try to reach out to them about this (they are also asking fans of the platforms to reach out as well).

Having #ActivityPub apps on IFTTT could enable some interesting interactions, especially is someone lives in a smart home!

How many times do I have to delete the "Microsoft Edge" icon from the desktop? Every day?!

OMG, using Chat GPT to write programs is pretty great. Tonight, I made a new PHP program just by asking it to do stuff.

I was about to set up DANE for my new email server, but NameCheap DNS doesn't have TLSA records! Bah!!

Don't trust any service on the internet you cannot host yourself, if needed. I am a very happy customer of masto.host for my instance, I am definitely not looking forward to run it on my own machine, but it makes me feel good to know I can, should the need arise.

RT @petersagal@twitter.com

This morning, the @washingtonpost@twitter.com published an exhaustive investigation of the Biden classified docs story by some of its best reporters showing that Biden's lawyers and aides did everything right, and nobody noticed.

When I think of obvious missing tech products, I can’t do most of them, because as soon as the idea gained traction as a product it would be taken over by a big company, partly because users prefer that. So a lot of gaps never get filled.

That’s the lesson from twitter shutting down the clients again. It isn’t just twitter, you as an independent developer, can’t step into any platform vendor’s territory, they will eventually take away your business.

I just found Mapstodon : a very nice interactive map of #Mastodon instances and their public timeline, grouped by region and interest.

I just gotta say, I don’t get on #Mastodon very often, but every time I do, I come away feeling happy and peaceful. Like I just spent some time hanging out with some interesting and laid back people who I hope to run into again.

I successfully made my own server for @delta! Woo hoo! Only using 215Mb RAM on a VPS so far.

Mastohost @mastohost is taking on new accounts again. You can get your own Mastodon server for $6 a month! The great thing about it is they take care of the software, you do not need to be technical to run a server.

Mastohost is where sauropods.win is hosted, and I can recommend them. Support is top-notch, and it's all been smooth sailing.

This is fascinating! The Braille Institute has developed a font - free to download - that's designed to be clearer for readers with lower vision.

An example of one of the aspects of low legibility that they tackled attached.

It's named Atkinson Hyperlegible. Atkinson was the Institute's founder - en.wikipedia.org/wiki/J._Rober

Here's where you can read about the font and download it: brailleinstitute.org/freefont
