I am setting up a simple redirect for this account as I can't seem to 'migrate my account'.
For those who are already following me, you will have to manually 'unfollow' this account and follow my new account.
Migrate to: @ProfessorCode
Looking forward to seeing you on the other side. 😄
Unfortunately, the account migration feature isn't working for some reason. I have created an alias for it on the new account but it still doesn't work. 😞
Moving to @ProfessorCode.
I just realized how far behind Librem Social is lagging in terms of updates. It's currently using a really old release of Mastodon (v3.1.1).
@purism What's happening? This server hasn't been updated in over two years. 🤯 This may explain certain 'hiccups' I have while using the service.
Right now, I would tell Librem Social users to move to a different server and to not recommend it to others. If you are looking for a server, you can go to https://joinmastodon.org.
For anyone who is interested, please check out my latest PyWeek entry for which the theme was 'The Red Planet'.

I ran into a couple of issues, which I have highlighted there, but I would still appreciate any feedback I can get.
You can also see my previous entry for the last PyWeek.
@sudo Thanks! I don't spot hoverflies a lot, so I try to give them a bit of attention when I see them.
I don't have a mobile phone because I don't enjoy the idea of being contactable when I'm not at my desk or within earshot of my landline. I don't want the intrusion or the distraction of anticipating intrusion when gardening, walking, cycling, etc. I don't enjoy the idea of contributing to demand for battery production or embracing the hardware churn that the mobile industry is anchored around
I read a couple of articles about the dangers of #ChatControl. This article by the Register makes a really strong case by demonstrating the technical, legal and practical shortcomings of such proposals.
https://www.theregister.com/2022/06/02/eu_child_protection/
Read it and then share it around. If you live in the EU, don't forget to give feedback.
⌛ There's a few more days to tell the EU that you don't want #chatcontrol
📄 Read about why it's a terrible idea: https://cryptpad.fr/code/#/2/code/view/+8pkd4-2AxP4QusFjKtVLQVgMXsfqsKYo0TJ3kjuDrQ/present/
For those #Linux users out there, what's your reason for using it?
@unfa I just listened to your 'PipeWire (LMC #12)' song via Audius. It was a blast! I doubt there is anyone else who can make listening to all that technical jargon about Linux so much fun. Seriously, I just became your lifelong fan! 😄
I got encouraged to record a reading of the new lore I drafted for my FPS game called Liblast.
So I have redrafted it once more and gave it a shot! If you like light-hearted science-fiction, FOSS and FPS games, you should find this enjoyable :D
The recording as well as the music were made using Ardour, Arch Linux and various open-source aduio plug-ins.

Flatpak seems to be getting more attention than ever. If you're on the same boat, try these tips: https://itsfoss.com/flatpak-tips-tweaks/
I found this interesting article regarding the password vs. passphrase debate.
https://proton.me/blog/protonmail-com-blog-password-vs-passphrase
The takeaway is basically, given that the password is actually of considerable length, it doesn't matter which one you use.
However, if it's a password that you'll need to remember, it's probably better to use a passphrase. The master password for the password manager you use is a good example. (That's one password it can't remember for you.)
@Suzie97@mastodon.social I have to agree. Flatpak is amazing. It really takes how the Linux community has done things and massively improves it without trying to change it fundamentally. I think that may be why it is winning out against AppImage and Snap.
While they are both great formats and have their own strengths, I think they fail to address their audience and how they prefer to work. It's more or less the same reason why Microsoft Store didn't take Windows users by storm.
@bitwarden Does it matter whether you use a passphrase or a reasonably long password if you use a password manager?
New video! If you're looking to get started with #Linux gaming, but you don't know how to, and everything looks too confusing, this is where you start:
MOD Devices is in big trouble.
The company that broke out with a successful Kickstarter campaign in 2014 has been designing and manufacturing (GNU/)Linux-powered devices for musicians, that were running open-source software. The company has contributed to the libre audio ecosystem but the have unfortunately reached a dead end.
