Great news! The
Software-Defined Radio & Amateur Radio
devroom at #FOSDEM '24 is the first room to have a complete, public, schedule 🙂

We're kind of proud about the impressive roster of talks we could attract, and humbled by @fosdem 's helpfulness!
Hoping to address a wide range of interests, we try to group related talks. Care about satellite communications? Come see!
DSP acceleration's your thing? Come!
Rig control, digital modes, radar, cellular? YES, we do.
@dylanvanassche has done an incredible amount of reverse engineering work to enable sensor support for SDM845 devices in #postmarketOS! 🎉 🎉 🎉
The accelerometer (auto screen rotation), ambient light sensor (auto-brightness), and compass now work properly on phones like the #OnePlus6 and #SHIFT6mq! Amazing work!!!

On BrickLink, #LEGO female firefighter minifigures sell for less than male firefighter minifigures.
Big news in the world of #lego! Okay, so not even in the world of lego is this news but it is noteworthy that 2024 will bring the first full-sized steamroller to the City line. Dump trucks, cranes, and bulldozers are aplenty, but the only steamroller prior to this one was a small one in a bag in 2022. With this new one I will finally be able to finish construction on that street we started 3 years ago. 😜 https://brickset.com/sets/60401-1/Construction-Steamroller
The Discovery Dish by the people who brought you the #KrakenSDR is a crowdfunded dish to capture weather satellite data, conduct radio astronomy, and more! The campaign ends in 5 days! Consider supporting this great project and get into satellite reception via SDR. See the earth, track weather patterns, and even forest fire smoke from space. https://www.crowdsupply.com/krakenrf/discovery-dish #crowdsupply #discoverydish
New project! Long range ssh over #LoRa. I’m going to get on this one as soon as I wrap up a few other projects. So cool! If I setup a few nodes, I could cross the city! https://unsigned.io/15-kilometre-ssh-link-with-rnode/
Weird. After coming out with a Technic Perseverance rover in 2023 (42158), #lego is releasing another Perseverance rover in 2024. No images of the new set yet, but I suppose the plan is to keep making them until the rover runs out of juice. https://brickset.com/sets/30682-1/NASA-Mars-Rover-Perseverance
After running into some limitations with #guix, I tested #alpinelinux as a desktop OS but experienced stability issues with GNOME. I think that’s pretty understandable given that GNOME is not a typical use case for Alpine. I’ve now returned to a fresh install of #PureOS. It’s stable as heck, designed with GNOME in mind, and is fully open source. Say what you will about #purism and their refund policy, PureOS is a solid product.
Booting #guix for the first time on my Thinkpad running coreboot. Installation was a bit long, but everything appears to have gone smoothly. GNOME is bare bones which is nice. Surprised that it’s running X11. Is Wayland not open source? Anyways, so far so great. Thanks for the freedom!
