Regarding the design decision to not allow direct quote+comment of other posts, a decision motivated by the desire to reduce bullying and such, @shawnp0wers said that was a "strange hill to die on" or something. I don't think so, and if @shawnp0wers has not seen such bullying himself then perhaps he could listen to those who have experienced that.

As I see it, if a design decision like that can improve discussion climate even a little bit, then that's a good thing, and perhaps a perfectly fine choice of a hill to die on.
If many people stay away from public discussions for fear of being bullied, then that is a serious threat to a democratic society and efforts to mitigate that deserve respect, in my opinion.
