We're in a weird timeline where it's now considered reactionary to say the developed world middle class needs to change our behaviors for ecological reasons

Happy Janmashtami! May your human pyramids stack ever higher!

@fribbledom I had an ionic purifier when I lived in India and it worked wonders, but that was really coarse particulates (smoke from fires mostly).

If anybody remember's Thompson's "Reflections on Trusting Trust", this is a good example. The only thing compromised was the build system; this was completely invisible in the source.

Anybody know if there is a Mastodon client package in the works for either Guile or Common Lisp? If not that seems like something I could usefully write.

ugh i really hope crossposters don't slowly choke mastodon like they did to diaspora*

if you're just crossposting everything you tweet on birdsite then what even is the point of making a mastodon account? that's glorified spam at worst, and a recipe for abandonment.

the proletariat consists solely of three white guys who take turns beating a piece of hot metal with a big hammer while wearing blue overalls and white sleeveless shirts. i've never met them but i'm pretty sure they agree with me on everything

@cooper older colognes/perfumes used to be heavier in fats and were equally tenacious. A 19th century perfume might be 80% fat and the highest fat content today is half that. (It was too expensive and people didn't like the oily feeling.)

I always found #gnupg fun and interesting. But I have nothing to sign or encrypt to make use of it. I guess that works out ok since I sure wouldn't want to have to back up those keys properly.

I'm interested in having a discussion about simple authentication schemes in gopher. Anyone who is interested please read my thoughts at

If you think this is an important issue, please boost. Thanks!

I finally got my Norman braised chicken recipe the way I like it, so I thought I'd share with the fedi-foodie-verse

Every year or so I try to transfer my GnuPG keyring to a new machine and wind up half-writing the same rant, over and over again, about how while it's nice that they are absurdly paranoid about incredibly improbable corner-case threats, the end result is to keep people from using it. Pinentry is the current example. Yes, I agree, it provides a form of protection against a threat vector that I'm not worried about. And in the process it makes the suite unusable without docs-groveling.
