Looks like all the time I spent this week optimising bird.makeup was useful: we managed to hit the performance target of processing every account at least once every hour.
3749 twitter accounts followed by 1985 fediverse users, and with so much space to grow now!
We just crossed 1900 users on bird.makeup 😲
Really excited about how far I can take this project this year!

Ok I have a weird request to help me build bird.makeup:
Do you know twitter accounts of dead people, ideally famous? They have to not be taken over by someone else too.
I'm using them for integration testing, and I only have kobebryant right now
Anyone working on a equivalent of Yo for the fediverse?
In the same vein, I'm thinking of giving priority to the accounts above, so that they are always posting to the fediverse in a timely fashion, at the expense of smaller account.
The main bottleneck I have right now is fetching tweets, but not posting them, so if you follow the accounts that are the most popular, it won't slow down things at all 👇

Outside of professional athletes (the tails, maxima), age seems to be just noise.
Standard Extreme Value Theory: the extrema has a different distribution than the average. In competitions w/professional athletes we observe the maxima. In real life, noise around an average.

It really enlightens my day to have @terriblemaps here!
So I spent the whole day optimizing bird.makeup and got about a 5x in performance. Things are starting to run better, seems we are iterating on all accounts within 4-5 hours right now. I have other ideas that will probably get another 3x that I want to implement tonight, so performance should be right on target.
Until more people sign up of course! 🙃

One question I get asked a lot about bird.makeup is: How fast is federation (time between tweet posted and on your fediverse timeline)? And how fast will it be in the future?
So we did fall to days with the influx of new users, which is unusable. I'm working on a few simple changes to bring in down to hours, and in the long term I want to bring in down to less than a single hour. It will never be realtime though, due to how I fetch tweets.
