Here's a neat interview with @blaine about Mastodon and how Fission is working to bring IPFS to the Fediverse. thenewstack.io/why-a-twitter-f

One of the things I would miss here on Mastodon was all of the alerts from my local infrastructure and government twitter accounts. These will likely take a very long time to make the migration.

With bird.makeup, you can create bot accounts that put those tweets in your Mastodon timeline. For instance, I follow the Washington State Patrol account for regional weather related road closures and accident reports:

Today’s social media status quo isn’t cutting it, so Mozilla is exploring an alternative here on Mastodon. In early 2023, Mozilla will be testing a publicly accessible instance in the Fediverse at Mozilla.Social. We will keep you updated, but for now learn more here: mzl.la/3BNXQMQ

“Interesting. Suggest that maybe we might still have an itsy bitsy bot problem on Twitter …”

I've waited a few days to post this about the #mastodonmigration. Here is the evolution of the new accounts in #mastodon after the events in the last week. After each new ban/suspension in the #bluebird we see a spike in new accounts in #mastodon. But recent growth seems to be more steady at around 50k per day. Since the #bluebird purchase by Musk, more than 3 million new accounts were created in #mastodon.

Giving a new developer the grand tour of the legacy code i’m supporting.

We may never be able to match the incredible achievements of #JohnMastodon, but the European Union still plays its part!

We are proud funders of Mastodon through the Next Generation Internet initiative (@EC_NGI).

People don't get what freedom means. Twitter is free to ban you for referring to other sites; just as if you owned a site you wd be free to ban people from mentioning Twitter, or mispelling the name of rivers.

Your mistake is to *depend* on someone else who can decide your fate.

Just pushed an update to bird.makeup/ : now videos should be playable, and not just a screenshot of it. So @dog_rates should work great now!

Just created @pytorch here.

Start following it for updates (will setup syndication shortly).

The creator of Lichess is on mastodon now: @thibault , nice!

Prediction:
1. Shareholder pressure from Tesla keeps increasing
2. Musk realizes that since he's taken over he's only made Twitter's financial losses worse, so now it's continuously burning a hole in his pocket
3. Musk steps down, blaming woke media, the libs, etc.
4. Twitter is damaged goods. Gets sold for $1 bln to some faceless corporation (like Tumblr was sold to Verizon).
5. Twitter slowly becomes irrelevant
6. 3 years later, some fans buy it for $1 million and try to open source it

BREAKING NEWS!
Internal sources claim John Mastodon will be the new CEO of Twitter.
